Originally from Manchester, I now live in Glasgow. I started my counselling training in London on Goldsmith University’s Graduate Certificate in Humanistic & Psychodynamic Counselling, before completing the University of Strathclyde’s MSc, Counselling & Psychotherapy. At Strathclyde I trained in Person-Centred Therapy and this forms the basis of my practice. I have experience working with a wide variety of people, I’m particularly familiar with autism and neurodiversity, and I work with all kinds of issues including depression and anxiety, as well as those vague feelings of just not being what you ought to be.

Are you feeling helpless, hopeless, frustrated with life, others or your self? Does life feel like too much at times? Do you find yourself wondering what is the point? Are you anxious? worrying about things that have yet to happen. Dealing with difficult feelings can feel overwhelming and may seem as if you have nowhere to turn or no way out. Deciding to see a counsellor can be a scary thought, thinking about discussing, with a stranger, private and sensitive subjects or even things that may feel shaming. However, making the decision to start therapy can be the first step to empowering yourself to make changes in your life.

I've worked with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, panic attacks, bereavement, trauma, abuse, problems at school, college or university, family and relationship difficulties, and issues around gender, sexuality and identity.
Sometimes people come to counselling or therapy with a particular symptom, after a significant life event or with work-related difficulties. Other times it's more about not quite feeling fulfilled in life, career or relationships. I believe the many ways we come to understand and make sense of who we are, including how we relate to others and the world around us, are central to our mental health and physical wellbeing. Unforseen life events, separations, losses and disappointments can all profoundly affect our sense of who we are.

My interests are trauma, chronic illnesses, abuse, challenging behaviours, gender issues, relationships, anxiety, depression, addictions and work related issues.
I believe that as human beings we seek safety, comfort and pleasure, and with this in mind, I aim to create a safe space in the therapy room, by building a therapeutic relationship with the client in the present, being with the client in their discomfort or confusion and exploring with them, experiences on an emotional level which helps them to find meaning in their world. I work existentially, however, I do draw from a number of disciplines to creatively attend to the presenting needs of the clients, helping them to find meaning and purpose in their lives and their relationships.

I specialize in low self-worth, codependency, high sensitivity, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, attachment trauma & abuse recovery.
Relationship struggles can leave lasting imprints, but they also open doors to self-renewal. As a psychosynthesis therapist, I specialize in helping individuals rebuild self-esteem, heal emotional wounds, and gently navigate the path to fulfilling relationships and lives. Over many years I've witnessed the profound truth that humans are inherently wired for meaningful and supportive connections. Yet, when faced with relational crises, the resulting experiences can be both dramatic and unexpectedly painful to navigate alone. The instinct to seek a safe space for healing and recovery becomes a natural and essential step forward.

Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is a talking therapy based on saying whatever is going through your mind. It can help you with issues related to trauma, relationships, grief, depression, anxiety, or major life changes. It helps you become aware of hidden meanings or patterns in what you do or say that may contribute to your problems. Many people come into therapy because they feel they are trapped by their past & want to talk it through with someone & work through things on a deeper level. I aim to provide a safe, personal space where you can talk about yourself & what troubles you, to try to understand the connections & patterns.

I have worked successfully with a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures and religions, helping to relieve symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and other psychological symptoms.
At times of difficulty it can be helpful to explore your concerns with a trained practitioner and consider possible solutions in a safe and confidential setting. The focus of therapeutic work is centred on your experience, helping you to clarify the issues that are troubling you, your thoughts and feelings and enabling you to find solutions. This work can provide a way forward and help at times of crisis when difficulties can be extreme, such as depression and anxiety. It can also be helpful when there is a lack of enjoyment of life or recurring difficulties in relationships. Counselling can bring you a greater awareness of choice.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
