I have a particular interest in anxiety, depression, workplace stress and relationship problems.
Sometimes life can seem overwhelming and whilst it is good to talk to friends and family, sometimes you need an independent professional to talk to about your problems. Counselling gives you a safe and confidential space to look at your situation and understand the root cause of your current difficulties. As a counsellor I don’t give advice but help you to discover the solution that works for you,

I work with adults and adolescents who have experienced trauma or suffer with anxiety-related issues such as panic attacks, phobias and so on.
Trauma can include life-threatening events or simply moments where you were overwhelmed and felt helpless. A troubling or terrifying event has an impact on the whole person – it is held in the body, changes ways of thinking, and often comes with an overwhelming set of emotional and behavioural responses. At times, these changes and responses are unhelpful and seriously affect people’s quality of life and their ability to move forward. Working together, we explore and come to understand your current responses. We identify tools that you can use to rebuild your life in a way that works for you.

We work with: relationship difficulties, depression, stress, anxiety, bullying, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss and many more.
There maybe times in our life where we need a safe, supportive environment so that we can explore our troubles and feelings without fear of judgement. Having a listening ear and being truly heard can really help us to get a better understanding of these troubles and aid us to develop ways to move forward in our lives. Sometimes having a confidential space to do this with someone who is independent of the situation is all that's needed. It takes courage to talk to a Counsellor but the rewards are usually worth it. www.htcounselling.co.uk

The last few years have been disorientating, changing us and the world around us. It's no wonder we're feeling more anxious and confused as we adjust and process the last few years. You may find that issues you coped with before are now magnified and more painful. Difficult experiences in your past can resurface and you may feel there is no-one you can be honest with about your thoughts. Perhaps you had an increased workload during the pandemic and are now at the stage of burnout? Whatever you are struggling with, sharing your issues in confidence, at your pace can help you gain the clarity and control you need in your life.

Does life feel increasingly difficult and you don’t fully understand your reactions? Anxiety, stress and the legacy of trauma take a heavy toll. It can be hard to make headway against the storm. You may be struggling with symptoms such as ruminating thoughts, panic attacks, difficulty focussing and unpleasant bodily symptoms. Anxiety can reach into all areas of our life, including personal and professional relationships. You may want to break free of repeating patterns. The good news is that it's possible to overcome even long-standing issues and reclaim the ability to live life to your fullest potential. There is hope.

I have experience working with anxiety, panic attacks, self harm, suicidal thoughts, depression, boundaries, pregnancy crisis and loss, post abortion, relational issues, trauma and other areas.
I don’t know if you have ever had the opportunity to share your story where someone really listens. I mean really listens, wanting to know you, your story, your ups and downs. Where nothing is off limits. Space to speak what maybe you’ve never spoken before. Sitting in the counsellee seat is not always easy and opening up to someone you do not know can be daunting. I know that taking that first step requires courage and I would love to walk with you on your journey.

Are you a parent concerned about your child's happiness, anxiety, well-being or behaviour? I’m here to help. With over 30 years of experience working with children, including as a CBT therapist, I specialise in empowering young individuals to conquer anxiety and take control of their lives. Behaviours like anger often mask underlying feelings and needs. Anger might conceal feelings of frustration, hurt, or fear. In many cases, these behaviours serve as a defence mechanism to cope with internal struggles such as stress, insecurity, or unresolved emotions.

I specialise in anxiety, stress, depression, relationship (personal and workplace) issues and men issues.
When we are trying to make sense of our situation or understand ourselves, we may feel we need someone to hear us. It could be something in particular that is causing you difficulties such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low self confidence, bereavement or relationship issues (family, personal or work). Or it can be a feeling of uncertainty, something about how you are feeling isn't quite right. We are all part of an interconnected world influenced by and influencing our relationships and situations. For this reason I give attention to what is happening now, your personal history, life situation and narrative.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
