Perhaps a recent event has brought up complicated feelings, or you live with anxiety, or relationships have been difficult for as long as you can remember. Sometimes it might feel that despite doing everything 'right', you find yourself in familiar patterns. Therapy should feel like a safe space to which you can bring your whole self. My work helps clients understand how their experiences (both past and present) and any unconscious forces might be impacting their relationships and ways of coping with life. Psychodynamic therapy promotes greater self-awareness and a space for you to take each session in the direction you need to.

Whether you have a clear idea about what is troubling you or just a general sense of overwhelm, low mood or anxiety, I am here to make sense of it with you, to respect how you feel and to talk about ways forward.
You might have thought of coming to therapy for a while or it may be a recent idea. In either case, I am here to listen to whatever is burdening you and to explore how we can make life a little easier. No problem is too big or small. Within our therapy sessions I will give you time just for you, offering a safe and calming space for your experiences to be shared, heard and respected. My aim is to work alongside you to gain new perspective, effective coping mechanisms and an inner sense of confidence and calm.

Sometimes people seek therapy for a specific problem, like feeling depressed or anxious. Sometimes because there has been a life transition that has been particularly hard to navigate. Or perhaps because they have a sense of there being repeating patterns in their relationships and life that are leaving them feeling stuck or empty. Sometimes people do not feel exactly sure why they are seeking therapy, there is just a sense of something being not quite right and an idea that this is something that could usefully be explored with another person.

Personality, relationships, anxiety, depression, and emotional trauma are areas of expertise.
I am a registered Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) Practitioner Psychologist, and am on the British Psychological Society Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors (RAPPS). I have been in Private Practice in Central London for nine years. Before spending ten years in full-time study and training in London universities and NHS Trusts to qualify as a psychologist, I spent a decade travelling, mainly around Asia, studying Eastern psychology and philosophy. Thus, I have a rich lens of psychological perspectives through which I understand and work with the mind. Psychoanalytic thinking underpins my approach to therapy.

I specialise in working with clients who suffer from many different mental health issues but especially anxiety and depression.
I aim to provide a safe welcoming, non-judgmental space where clients can freely express their thoughts, feelings and truly be heard. I am here to listen to you and help you find the best way forward. I use a collaborative approach where we examine thoughts and feelings from the past and examine how those past feelings affect the client in the here and now. My hope is to help clients realise that they have the tools to help themselves move forward in life and I’ll assist in finding new perspectives that help to bring self-awareness, strength, self-belief and enable positive change.

I trained at the Tavistock Centre and I am a member of Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists as well as a member of British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I am a relational psychotherapist with a particular interest in relationship issues, self esteem and anxiety. Relationships may be sources of love, support and nourishment but can also cause you to feel anxious, stressed, confused, in pain and in turmoil. You may have hit a time when you feel very lost and it is unclear what comes next. It is perfectly normal to feel anxious, confused or challenged about areas in our life such as ageing, relationships, family and the direction of our careers.

Hello, all are welcome. Anxiety, stress, depression and anger can creep up on us or appear quite suddenly. Sometimes life just gets too hard and we cannot cope. You may not even know why you feel the way you do, even so, talking with someone impartial can really help. I believe that mental health is no different to physical health in that systems can become unbalanced and give us problems. Support from a Counsellor can help to rebalance your mind. You may feel unsure but I encourage you to come and meet me, then see how you feel.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
