I offer couple/relationship therapy using an approach called Emotionally Focussed Therapy. I am a UKCP registered Family and Systemic Psychotherapist with 20 years experience in the NHS and private practice. Couples usually come for therapy when there is a high level of distress in the relationship. They are often experiencing painfully repetitive 'win-lose' arguments, feeling hurt, blamed, lonely, unappreciated, angry, sad. They feel stuck, don't know how to move forward, don't want to make things worse. There may be issues around trust, communication, betrayal, affairs, and lack of intimacy.
Couple therapy helps partners to move from distress to loving reconnection by transforming negative patterns of interaction into safe emotional connection. It increases partners' abilities to deal with conflict, helps them resolve old problems, and creates a deeper sense of emotional, physical and sexual intimacy and safety.
I believe that investing in your relationship through therapy can really build resilience and happiness. Deciding to come for therapy is often not an easy step to take.
