Does life sometimes feel like a jigsaw puzzle with pieces not slotting together? I am a great believer that we need to invest in ourselves. When life becomes difficult and those pieces are just not fitting, therapy gives you the opportunity to focus on yourself, make you the priority in an otherwise busy life. I have been through such times and it encouraged me to train as a counsellor then a psychotherapist to help clients with general mental health issues and other life difficulties, such as grief and other losses, addiction, sexuality, relationships, domestic abuse and anger issues.

Are you going through a difficult time in your life? depression, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, trauma, disorders? Finding it hard to cope? lonely, confused, lost and uncertain what to do without someone who can listen and understand you? There can be times in your life when you need someone to talk to, listen to you or just be quiet with. Often this is not possible with your partner, family or friends and you may need a different perspective from someone that is not part of your life. Counselling can help you understand your thinking, your feelings the ways in which you act, helping you to make better life choices.

I provide counselling from my private practice at my home in Melksham, Wiltshire. This is a private room providing a safe and confidential space for our work together. I can offer various daytime and evening appointments throughout the week. My training helps me to provide you with a reliable, regular, non-judgmental space where you can begin to talk about whatever is on your mind. I work in what is called an integrative way, using a wide range of therapeutic models, but primarily focusing on humanistic counselling.

My clients often feel painfully stuck in some way and that's why they come to me. Problems become overwhelming. For instance, being unhappy in a marriage; having a serious illness and dealing with its effects; feeling low and not understanding why; dealing with divorce; having problems with one's children and not being sure how to manage; wanting to move forward in life but just not managing somehow; work issues - struggles with colleagues, dissatisfaction with a career. Anxiety, depression and confusion usually accompany these challenging life situations.

I offer a non-judgemental, safe environment to help you understand yourself and your life. Counselling can support you to find your own insights, new ways of being with yourself and others, and work towards healing and freedom. It can be a space to get things off your chest, rest or reset, find perspective and understanding in life and relationships, as well as having someone to really hear and be with you as you share and explore what is difficult. My practice is informed by Buddhist philosophy and meditation, which I have been exploring and supporting others with for over 15 years, emphasising embodied awareness and compassion.

Barnstaple EX31  (Online Only)
I work with people online across the UK and 18 years of experience has shown me that confusion, isolation, anxiety, depression, apathy, addictive behaviours and feeling 'stuck' inhibit us from moving forward and achieving a personal sense of well being and purpose. Usually, unravelling past events and clearly seeing the impact of them brings refreshing clarity and often relief. Understanding ourselves, our families and others better is hard work but also life changing. The privilege of my job is seeing positive change happening in and beyond the sessions. New opportunities and increased self-empowerment inevitably follow.

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
