I have experience of working with a wide-range of differing psycho-emotive (grief, anger, sadness, hopelessness) and behavioural problems (aggression, addictions, relationship issues).
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with adults in both NHS and private practice settings. Crises are often important moments in our lives that signify the need to make changes. These times can indicate that old ways of coping or patterns in relationships and behaviour are now no longer working. I offer a non-judgemental reflective space in which to support individuals to increase understanding and insight into their difficulties and to identify the changes they wish to make. I have been trained in a number of therapeutic modalities which I integrate and tailor to each individual.

You may have feelings of dissatisfaction and a sense that you are not getting all that you want from life. You may be finding that every day is a struggle with strong, even overwhelming, feelings of depression, anxiety, stress or anger. I believe we all strive to feel happier and more fulfilled than we currently are. We want to feel a connection with other people and to have a sense that we are leading meaningful, enjoyable lives - even when we feel at a loss as to how to achieve this. I help people overcome their difficulties to become happier, more psychologically healthy and experience an improved quality of life.

We all have times in our lives when we feel overwhelmed. This can impact on our relationships and other areas of our lives. These feelings may make it difficult to reach our potential or know how to progress. Counselling offers a reflective space which is helpful for building self-awareness in order to work through past or present life challenges. I employ a flexible approach which is informed by your needs. I draw on different theories to create a style of therapy which is individually tailored to you, and your aims. I hope to provide an open and accepting, and genuinely safe and non-judgemental space to reflect without fear.

Feeling safety in a complex world is no mean feet. Childhood, historic, or current experiences, interacting/reacting with the complexities brought about by the pandemic, can exhaust any capacity for resilience. maybe you're a parent/carer of children transitioning from the intensity of lockdown to the uncertainty of the easing of restrictions? Is this further complicated by returning to education settings for children with Autism, ADHD, FASD, SPD, trauma and attachment? Maybe you are a foster care or adoptive parent wondering how to rebalance the attachment bond after the intensity of lockdown, recalibrating interfamilial dynamics?

I believe in the power of opening up, and while I will draw on theory and knowledge to support each individual client, I am led by the client and their individual needs. An ideal client is someone who wishes to build a therapeutic space alongside me, allowing me to facilitate safety and build trust. I am interested in helping others to develop personal growth and insight through the relational dynamics they experience.

The same arguments with your partner over the same stuff. Frustration and resentment because they do not accept what is important to you ,but ignore it and behave the same way. The atmosphere after an argument continues until you make it right .So stress is a regular feature of your life that affects health , sleep, emotional wellbeing ,sex and work,. Your worries and concerns are about the future. Dependents are also impacted by arguments and strained stmosphere. Your partner's absence is a relief. You think of separation, Can this relationship change to meet my needs and my dependenrs' needs? What's the future for us?

Anger Management Counsellors

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
