Although all clients are welcome, I specialise in counselling adults and young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Autistic Spectrum Condition and Specific Learning Difficulties, e.g. dyslexia. I have been working with neurodiverse adults for over thirty years, first as a teacher, then as an assessor, and now also as a counsellor. Although obtaining a diagnosis can bring relief, people often have many painful memories of school days and work, of relationships, and of not understanding and being misunderstood. Life can seem complex and confusing and sometimes who we are and what we want can get lost along the way.

Hello, my name is Lee Ash. I trust you have found me because you are going through a difficult time and are seeking support and a safe person to share your struggle with. I understand that reaching out to an unfamiliar person can be a challenging experience, so I will do my best to lessen any fears you may have about the counselling process through sharing information about myself and my counselling practice. The first thing I want you to know is that when you contact me I respond. I am very aware that when someone is seeking counselling they don’t want to wait too long for a response. So I make it my priority to be as available

Life isn't a straight forward, easy process, it has its roller coaster of ups, downs and roundabouts, how do we maintain our focus on our everyday lives, we attempt to get on with it, but sometimes it can feel like an uphill struggle against the wind and rain. We become overloaded, overwhelmed, stressed and irritable and sometimes our friends, family and colleagues notice our behaviour before we do. When we do realise that we need support, help, courage, whatever you chose to call it then we are half way there, the rest is looking for someone to share our difficulties and pressures with.

Hi thank you for looking at my profile. Im guessing that if you have got as far as looking for a counsellor you have most likely been struggling with a problem or problems for some time. Life can be tough at times and no matter how resilient we are we are all vulnerable to feeling overwhelmed. This overwhelmed experience might show itself in feeling panicky, depressed, perhaps angry or sometimes it shows up in our behaviours and the way we take care of ourselves or others. If you feel stuck in yourself and have tried unsuccessfully to bring about change it probably is the right time to see a counsellor.

Life can feel like a struggle, or we may feel that we’re just not living the life that we’d like to. Perhaps you’re questioning who you are? Sometimes, whether we have others around us or not, we can feel lonely. We may feel that we have no-one to talk to. My aim is to provide a space to BE. A space to be seen, heard and validated. A space to explore what might be troubling you, who you are, and how you might cultivate a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling. In particular, I specialise in working with Highly Sensitive People as defined by Elaine Aron, and how life experiences may affect this minority of people.

Clients access therapy for a multitude of reasons; there may be difficulties at work, challenges in a relationship or a client may have been abused spanning a number of years. My hope with therapy is to explore the roots of issues, to rediscover our innate resilience, to build self-esteem and to help you meet your goals, your hopes, your wishes. Many people access therapy because they want to feel different, to change the emotions they are experiencing, or for others it may be learning to access those feelings that have perhaps been locked away through trauma.

I have a wealth of experience in helping people to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing. As a clinical psychologist I value the therapeutic relationship and think that it is vital to find a therapist you 'click' with. My personable, warm and empathetic nature has helped many people to overcome the difficulties holding them back in life. It can be daunting to embark on a therapy journey with someone - I am mindful of this and will help you to feel relaxed and comfortable when using therapy for your personal development.

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) focuses on helping individuals understand how their thinking about a situation affects the way they feel and act. In turn it considers how behaviour can affect thoughts and feelings. In this therapeutic approach, the client and I work together to change the client’s behaviours, or their thinking patterns or both. CBT has a very wide evidence base and is one of the most popular therapeutic approaches.CBT is pragmatic, highly structured, relies on a collaborative therapeutic relationship between the client and I. CBT is able to treat a variety of disorders which are listed in my profile.

Are you exhausted by the effort it takes to manage your feelings? Do you want to feel safe? Does anxiety drive a wedge between you and the people you care about? Living with low self esteem and anxiety can be a horrible and lonely way to live. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, panic disorders or relationship problems, there is good news. Research has shown that a good relationship with a counsellor/therapist can really help. Just having someone who understands what it's like to live in your messed up head really helps. And if you are committed, you can change your life.
