You are the only person who knows exactly how you feel, which means, you are the only one who knows when something is wrong. When something has happened, big or small, but enough to create feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, it can lead us to feeling isolated and alone. There is a human need to want to get back to that balance of a happy life and that change can only happen when you know and understand what is wrong and why. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by a situation, current or historical, we cant seem to find a way out. But balance is achievable again, but sometimes we just need a little support to help us get there.

Hello my name is James and I work as a counsellor and a Jungian Sandplay therapist. I have a practice based in Lincoln and work with children, teenagers and adults. Jungian Sandplay is a form of therapy where you are invited to work in a tray of either wet or dry sand to make pictures and scenes that reflect what is happening in your world. Through the use of miniatures and various objects you can express your feelings, reconnect with your inner self and move forward in areas where you feel stuck. My room is equipped with shelves that provide hundreds of miniatures, ornaments and natural objects.

I began as an anthropologist, seeking to understand other people's cultures from their own perspectives. Then my desire changed to facilitating direct positive shifts in other people's lives; lives spoilt by trauma, depression, anxiety, abuse, persecuted sexuality and lack of life direction. My work is now with private clients across anxiety and mood problems - generalized anxiety, OCD, PTSD, psychosexual problems and depression. I also work in depth on relationship problems which often link with anxiety. In Islington Mind I worked with LGBT clients including asylum seekers persecuted for their sexuality.

Choosing to talk about what is going on in your life is a courageous step. Perhaps you are struggling with a specific past or present challenge, decision about the future, feeling empty and directionless, anxious or depressed, or simply wanting to get things off your chest and understand yourself and your identity better. Whether you are at a crossroad in your life, a real low point or seeking to make changes, that is where we will start. I truly believe that as hard as it can be, talking about what you are facing can take the power out of some of the feelings and thoughts that can make you feel stuck or isolated.

We live in a world which throws a lot at us, and expects a lot of us. And, very often, we expect a lot of ourselves too. For many of us, it can help to talk through what we’re dealing with, to help us understand what’s going on and find a way forward. Whether you’re dealing with anger, anxiety, bereavement, depression, identity, loneliness, powerlessness, relationship difficulties, or simply want to talk things through, I offer a confidential, non-judgmental space to explore what you’re feeling, and how you can manage it. We’re all different and we all need to find our own way. I can help you do that.

Alcohol Use Counsellors
Are there specific medications for alcohol use?
There are oral medications approved to treat alcohol use disorder—such as disulfiram, acamprosate, and naltrexone, which also comes in an injectable form. These medications do help people reduce their drinking as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone helps reduce cravings, disulfiram can make a person feel sick when they drink, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
How do alcohol recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other patients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals live at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff can also include people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other tools for recovery.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for alcohol use reduce the amount of alcohol they intake. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
