Why art therapy? Art therapy is a mode of psychotherapy that uses creative techniques to help individuals express themselves through art, when they can no longer do so verbally. You are not expected to be an artist of have artistic ability, but have the willingness to play' and explore with art materials provided within a 'safe' space. An Art Therapist is not here to ‘teach’ you, but to support you in using art materials in your 'own' way. Art therapy can provide an opportunity for you to explore and overcome issues you may not be able to express verbally using a non-threatening creative process. I also offer clinical supervision.
As an Art Psychotherapist, I work with a variety of approaches including person-centred therapy, psychodynamic and creative/expressive methods. This allows me to work in a way which best fits your needs and goals. I work with clients from the ages of 6 years old up through adolescence to adulthood. Being creative is for everyone!
It is important that you understand that due to the nature of topics discussed, feelings and behaviour may change as part of the healing process. As your Art Therapist our therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work and I will be there to guide you through the process.
