I work as a clinical psychologist both in the NHS and in private practice where I meet with adult individuals. My approach is based on an understanding that a person’s difficulties are meaningful and can be understood in the context of their life experiences. From this perspective people's difficulties are not considered random, but on some level an understandable reaction to life events, often a way of coping.

My name is Sally and I am a humanistic counsellor, I use a Client Centred, non-directive approach which consists of looking at a person as a whole. I believe you have the inner resources to make changes in your life, I see my role as a facilitator of your process of these changes. I offer you a safe, non-judgemental, supportive and confidential space where you can gently explore your difficulties. I work with a wide range of issues and have listed some that may bring you into counselling. These are examples and ‘I just don’t feel right’ or ‘I don’t know why I am here’ are just as important.

I see clients with a range of difficulties across the lifespan who find themselves in psychological distress and are looking for an understanding and solution to their difficulties. These difficulties may have been lifelong or more recently acquired. They may be showing clinical symptoms such as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress, or OCD as a result. They may want longer term therapy to work on themselves more deeply or they may want short term therapy that is focussed on resolving more specific issues.

A crisis is often a call to personal growth and development, to find a new path through life. The drive of the unconscious part of our nature is towards wholeness. In analysis we listen to the compensatory, complementary and sometimes prospective communication from the unconscious....hearing the voices of the soul balancing the relationship of conscious and unconscious. Individuation is the process of coming into psychic balance. In analysis you can learn to listen and understand your inner voice, gain a deeper sense of self, meaning and purpose in life, to become the person you are meant to be.

Anxiety, bereavement, loss and relationship distress are feelings that need to be heard not hidden. It can feel as if the rug has been pulled from beneath everything you know about your world. The feelings of confusion, anger, anxiety & distress overwhelm everything else. Even small familiar tasks & routines are experienced in a new strange way. Whether expected, or unforeseen, you may feel confused, shocked & your resilience seems to have vanished. If you are suffering with anxiety, loss relationship difficulties you might be feeling very hurt, angry, alone or frightened.Holding onto those feelings is exhausting & relentless.

I am am an empathic, respectful, fully qualified psychotherapist. I also offer supervision to trainee counsellors and therapists. I am the owner and practice manager of Inner Space Counselling Ltd. in central Tunbridge Wells/Sevenoaks. The psychological strategies and techniques that I use are formed from this background, with its academic rigour, combined with a wealth of real life experience.
