Do you constantly feel anxious and frustrated with yourself ? Do you keep repeating the same behaviour patterns ? There is a reason for this. I have helped many clients to work through traumatic life experiences. You can start again with a new self confidence that comes from a place of love rather than hate for who you are. Things do not have to stay the same. You can change how you feel about yourself and learn to accept yourself, even the bits you don't like ! You can learn to regulate your feelings and work with them rather than being afraid and controlled by them.

The therapy and counselling I provide is totally client-led, with very few boundaries; your child or teen can share their world however they would like & talk (or not) as the mood takes them.
Hi, I'm Elaine. I'm a child & adolescent therapist & counsellor who supports children, teens & their families to manage big feelings, stressful situations and other life challenges. I work with children & young people aged 6-25 (as well as some adults) and support them with a huge range of issues from anxiety and worries about school, fostering and adoption, to trauma, bereavement, sexual abuse and domestic violence, covering pretty much everything you can think of in-between. I'm an accredited therapist who offers play & creative arts therapy, TraumaPlay and talking therapy. I have a therapy dog who loves to be involved.

Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Certified Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional, Certified Family Trauma Professional.
My approach to therapy is friendly, respectful & totally non-judgemental. Primarily I use an Integrative Therapy based on TTM ( Transtheoretical Model of Change) based (between others) on your goals, readiness to change and the fact that ‘no one type of therapy fits all’. Psychoeducation about your symptoms, coping strategies (CBT and Mindfulness') will improve your everyday life and if you feel ready to work on the 'the roots' of the current difficulties- EMDR, Counselling and Attachment Theory would be something to explore. I adjust therapy to my clients and not the other way around.

My background is in specialist mental health services; predominantly CAMHS (child and adolescent mental health) and eating disorders.
Therapy can be different things to different people; it can be about focusing on changing a specific behaviour, learning to manage emotions or wanting a space to explore experiences, get understanding and make meaning. It can be all of these things or something completely different. My strength is in the less directive, exploration work; helping clients to understand their world and why they feel, think, behave the ways that they do. With this insight, I can help you to find ways to change old patterns and move forwards in a direction towards the life you want to live.

Hello, welcome. I can imagine how difficult it must be searching through the profiles trying to find the right therapist. Making the decision to seek help for your child/grandchild is a brave one and sometimes it can be difficult. I have been told by clients that I am calm, warm, welcoming, and approachable; and can put them at ease. I am a Child and Adolescent Therapist who specialises in 7-18 years olds who until recently worked in CAMHS for the NHS for over six years. I decided to work in private practice after seeing so many children whom I could help turned away by CAMHS or who were waiting a long time to get help.

Additional specialised experience includes: CRUSE bereavement counsellor, CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services), and SCHOOL COUNSELLOR.
I offer therapy and supervision that starts with what you bring; making no assumptions, listening with empathy and working with you towards growth and change. The client-therapist relationship is vital, as we need to trust each other in order to work together effectively (getting the right therapist for you is more important than gaining a client for me). I offer weekly, fortnightly, monthly and ad hoc sessions. Please EMAIL/TEXT as I cannot answer the phone when with clients and I don’t want to miss your call. Jan 2023 - I currently have no evening, after 6pm, sessions available

Having my own struggles with anxiety as a teenager and on into my adult life, I wish I had found the support I needed much sooner than I did.
Welcome to Amber Therapy, I’m Andrea and I have been growing Amber Therapy here in Croxley Green, Hertfordshire since 2015. I like being listened to, I appreciate being heard. I would like to offer that opportunity to you. Sometimes just having the space to talk freely can help unravel thoughts and help us gain a fresh perspective within situations.

As a teenager or younger adult you might benefit from exploring how you have become who you are, who you want to be and how you want to be in the world.
Are you anxious much of the time? Do you feel overwhelmed or defeated with everyday life. Maybe you are struggling with relationships at home, work, college or school. Perhaps you feel your early adverse experiences or your parent's choices around early care, school, and lifestyle have impacted the way you function as an adult. Perhaps you have experienced a major life event recently that has disturbed your equilibrium. A therapeutic relationship can be a source of self discovery through reflective exploration as well as place to find the tools and strategies to move forward with authenticity, confidence, peace and enjoyment.

My passion is supporting children(11+) teenagers and adults around a variety of life's challenges. My work with young people has enabled them to navigate the changes and complexities of the adolescent years focusing on neurodivergence, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, low self-esteem, friendship group challenges, bereavement and changing family dynamics. I have explored with them their online world and safety online and its impact across areas of their life. Promoting understanding and healthier coping and communication mechanisms underpins my work with teenagers.

Issues: relationships, bereavement, marital, coping skills, emotional disturbance, adolescent / teenager, children / trauma, stress, Drawing and Talking as a therapy tool.
Whatever you are feeling now, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Life can be tricky sometimes and you may think that people can't understand you because of what you are going through. Sometimes you need someone to listen to you, to help you to understand what is actually happening. I can help you to walk through this journey, to find a way to a safe place which respects your values and beliefs. You can talk about any issues that bother you and explore your emotions without judgment. I have 19 years of training and experience in a broad range of topics in psychotherapy counselling and educational therapy.

Teen Counsellors

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
