I am familiar with working with clients and ADHD/ASD, and I very much understand the process around assessment, diagnosis, medication and coping skills.
I have worked with many and varied individuals over the years, with a variety of concerns. I am experienced with clients from all walks of life, and from various countries (English speaking). I very much value difference and diversity, and have a lived experience of working in multi cultural societies, in two countries. I work both face to face and online. I practice psychotherapy in a very human and relational way, and believe that the therapeutic relationship is key to promoting change. I have considerable experience of working with cPTSD.

Hi, I'm Matt. You've taken a courageous and positive step in seeking a therapist to work with. It can be really nerve-wracking to find the strength to reach out and ask for support - I've certainly been there, and have been personally helped by counselling in my own life! I work with a range of issues, most notably anxiety, depression, stress, relationships & sexuality, addiction, coping with life changes and supporting people in finding more direction, purpose & fulfilment in their lives.

Hello, I'm Semeyra. I'm a BACP accredited counsellor & psychotherapist with 13 years experience of helping people cope with the full spectrum of life challenges and mental health problems. As an experienced therapist, I will help you to understand your difficulties, including your motivations, behaviour and what led you to where you are. We will explore what has caused your current problems (including any past/ childhood trauma that may continue to affect you now). Our work together will help you to move forward, make changes where they may be needed and, ultimately, feel less troubled by your difficulties.

People come to counselling/therapy for a range of issues including relationships, stress, fear or anxiety, confidence & self-esteem, procrastination, unhelpful habits or addictions & a whole range of other issues. In the beginning my role is to get to know you, understand who you are, listen why you have come, why you are the way you are, what you might need. I usually ask a lot of questions to find out about you now and what brings you to counselling, a little about your past, to find out how counselling can help alongside considering not only any underlying issues but also how you may want to live your life to your full potential.

Do you feel you would like your relationship to be in a better place? Perhaps you're going through a life transition, such as becoming parents, or you're raising a family and you would love to find that spark between you as a couple again. Have you noticed a distance between you, and that you miss the closeness and intimacy you once shared? Maybe your relationship has reached a crisis point such as an affair and you're looking to help your relationship heal. Or maybe communication has become an issue, leaving you feeling that your true needs are not being met and you would like to understand each other better.

Sometimes life can prove truly relentless. We have all experienced times when several challenges have simultaneously knocked at our door, perhaps when there is already so much we are holding for ourselves and our loved ones. Perhaps you are battling with a lack of meaning and purpose, relationship or work issues, climate grief, addiction. Maybe you feel isolated, lost in a fast-changing world that does not match your values, or stuck in recurring patterns that are no longer serving you. It could be that you are experiencing anxiety, depression, anger, suicidal thoughts, and you do not quite know what to do with them.

It is natural to feel lost or confused when facing emotional difficulties, such as the ending of a relationship, when going through big change or you are feeling overwhelmed by past events. You are not alone if you are experiencing anxiety, unhelpful behaviours or you are feeling isolated. These are human experiences that we can all go through. Psychotherapy provides a calm and non-judgemental space where you can reflect, explore and deal with the difficulties in your life.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
