I'm trained and experienced in helping young people (13+) and adults who are struggling with their mental health, and in gently assisting them in their search for the roots of those feelings. I work closely with LGBTQ+ folk, and with those who are and/or love neurodivergent people (ASD, ADHD, AuDHD, etc). I'm also an experienced School Counsellor, a role I greatly enjoy. I'm trauma-informed, anti-oppressive and culturally attuned. We will use your personal values and beliefs as our reference points during therapy, so that we can safely explore what's going on for you from the only appropriate perspective: your own.

Therapy can be different things to different people; it can be about focusing on changing a specific behaviour, learning to manage emotions or wanting a space to explore experiences, get understanding and make meaning. It can be all of these things or something completely different. My strength is in the less directive, exploration work; helping clients to understand their world and why they feel, think, behave the ways that they do. With this insight, I can help you to find ways to change old patterns and move forwards in a direction towards the life you want to live.

I have worked in several settings including the NHS, Palliative Care, and the Ministry of Justice. People seek out psychotherapy for many different reasons, often though to find some relief from an emotional pain. Entering counselling for the first time can fill you with worries and anxiety. It is important for me to create a setting so anxiety begins to ease, enabling exploration to occur. I would like to offer you a safe, warm, non judgemental space to provide security that is needed for exploration that we can take together. To have a trusting relationship between therapist and client is fundamental to bring about positive change and to be understood is to gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and your past experiences.

ADHD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
