Shawn Meghan Burn, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo where she teaches social psychology, applied social psychology, group dynamics, and women's and gender studies. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and her Master’s degree and PhD in psychology from Claremont Graduate University. Her consulting, research, and teaching focus on the application of psychology to address individual, group, and social problems. She is the author of four books, “The Social Psychology of Gender” (McGraw-Hill, 1996), “Women Across Cultures: A Global Perspective” (McGraw-Hill, 1999, 2005; 2011; 2019), “Groups: Theory & Practice” (Cengage, 2004), and "Unhealthy Helping: A Psychological Guide to Overcoming Codependence, Enabling, and Other Dysfunctional Giving" (Amazon, 2016) as well as research articles and chapters on the psychology of sustainability, the psychology of gender, sexual assault prevention, sexual harassment, bystander intervention, and heterosexism.
