If you change the way you look in a somewhat noticeable fashion it will also make people uncomfortable, not necessarily because they disagree with the change, but because now they have to habituate your new appearance into their lives. For example, I am a guy with long hair, when I first started growing it everyone was saying cut it cut it cut it, because I suppose the change made them uncomfortable. Now I am sure that most people I know would have a hard time imagining me without long hair and most of the people I know would be saying "Why did you cut it? You've got to grow it back! I'm not about to test this theory, just food for thought.
