Breast cancer gets 15x more Federal funding than prostate cancer
The biggest issue with prostate cancer is that it gets a small fraction of both public and private research funding that breast cancer receives. That grim fact is due to the fact that the Democratic Party in the USA has focused on funding women's health, but has ignored men's health.
The PSA exam was never even intended to diagnose prostate cancer to begin with, yet it remains the "gold standard" due to the absence of research funding.
Also, the medical community often shows an indifference to prostate cancer patients. I have heard doctors and nurses actually dismiss prostate cancer as an "old man's disease"; and that "something else would kill them sooner". I would like to see them say that to my cousin, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer at age FORTY.
