For nearly thirty years, Dr.Vint Virga has been a distinguished practitioner and leader in veterinary medicine, recognized for his insights into our relationships with animals. His expertise as a specialist in veterinary behavioral medicine uniquely spans the animal kingdom from domestic animals to wild species such as leopards, gibbons, wolves, and giraffes. As the founder and CEO of Veterinary Healing Arts, he serves as a consultant to wildlife parks and zoos on the behavioral well-being and management of animals in their care.
Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Virga has served as an advisor to federal government agencies, leading corporations, nonprofit foundations, and animal welfare organizations. He has been profiled in The New York Times and featured on PBS Nature, ABC World News, National Geographic Explorer and NPR Fresh Air.
His first book, The Soul of All Living Creatures, is a winner of the 2014 Silver Nautilus Award. Dr. Virga also posts a blog for Psychology Today and has contributed to Conjunctions, Biographile, Mind Body Green, Books for Better Living, and TheDodo.com. In recognition of his writing, he’s been awarded two MacDowell Fellowships, a Kendall Fellowship, and distinguished artist residencies at Brush Creek and Yaddo.
