Thomas Webb Ph.D.

Thomas Webb, Ph.D., is a social psychologist at the University of Sheffield interested in how people achieve their goals and make changes to their behavior. He is also Chair of the Institute of Inertia, which is a partnership between the University of Sheffield and that investigates why people do not take action on their personal finances. Webb’s research focuses on the effects of motivation on behavior—smaller than you might think; the benefits of forming if-then plans—bigger than you might think; and something called "the ostrich problem," which is the idea that people often bury their heads in the sand and fail to monitor the relation between their current behavior and their desired behavior.
