Prudence Gourguechon, M.D., served as President of the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA) from 2008 to 2010. As president she established a Soldiers and Veterans Initiative and a new Education Department to provide psychoanalytic content and perspective to teachers at all levels. She conceptualizes psychoanalysis as an invaluable tool in providing a deeper and more nuanced understanding of a wide range of human affairs. She previously served as Editor of The American Psychoanalyst (TAP), the Association's quarterly magazine, and has gained an international perspective from her involvement in a range of international psychoanalytic activities. She has a private practice in psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Chicago. She also has a practice providing organizational consulting using her psychoanalytic and leadership experience--psychoanalytic organization consulting can sharpen messages, help businesses avoid costly errors, reduce conflict and promote staff growth.
