Mathis Kennington Ph.D.

Mathis Kennington, Ph.D., is a licensed marriage and family therapist and supervisor specializing in couple and sex therapy. He teaches couple and sex therapy at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. For the last four years, Kennington served as a clinical faculty and, more recently, the Clinical Director of the Austin Family Institute where he trained, educated, and supervised LMFT-Associates and graduate students. Currently, Kennington is a Co-Founder of The Practice ATX, a mental health practice dedicated to making therapeutic services more transportable—increasing the impact of therapeutic outcomes for people who seek help. Kennington earned his Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, where he studied the impact of prison release on intimate relationships. During his doctoral tenure, Kennington was funded by the Minority Fellowship program for his work with former prison inmates. He writes about sexual health, couple relationships, and the impact of pleasure prohibitions on adult mental health.
