Judith Eve Lipton, M.D.

Judith Eve Lipton, M.D. is a psychiatrist and Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Lipton has been married for 39 years to Professor David Barash; they have coauthored 8 books, on sex, war, and human nature (sometimes all at once, sometimes not.) Her latest book, The Pura Vida Paradox: Demilitarization and Well-Being in Costa Rica, is being published by Oxford University Press. Now Lipton and Barash are off to demystify and demolish nuclear deterrence theory.

Dr. Lipton retired from the practice of psychiatry in 2009 after 30 years in order to move to Costa Rica to explore its culture and people.  She is writing a book about the phenomenon of happiness in Costa Rica, noted to be the happiest country in the world on 3 different international surveys.
