Alexandra Katehakis, MFT

Alexandra Katehakis, M.F.T., is a Licensed Marriage, Family Therapist, certified sex addiction therapist and supervisor, certified sex therapist and supervisor, and Founder and Clinical Director of the Center for Healthy Sex in Los Angeles, California. She is the supervisory consultant to the International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), the certifying body for sex addiction therapists.

Ms. Katehakis received her early training in transpersonal psychology from John Cogswell, Ph.d. where she co-founded a mind/body psychotherapeutic modality known as "Walking-in-Your-Shoes." She specializes in and has extensive experience in working with a full spectrum of sexuality from sexual addiction to problems of sexual desire and dysfunction for individuals and couples. She speaks to professional audiences on the subject of sex addiction and sexuality and teaches workshops on healthy sexuality in retreat settings.

Over the past decade, she has synthesized her studies in Patrick Carnes's sexual addiction treatment model with David Schnarch's Sexual Crucible approach. She authored her first book on the topic of restoring sexuality while in recovery from sex addiction entitled Erotic Intelligence: Igniting Hot Healthy Sex While in Recovery From Sex Addiction.

Since 2006, Ms. Katehakis has studied affective neuroscience with Allan N. Schore, incorporating regulation theory into her treatment of sexual addiction. Her article, "Affective Neuroscience and Sexual Addiction" was published in the Journal of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (March 2009). In 2010, the Psychotherapy Networker (March/April 2010) published her article "Addicted to Sex" which illustrates the application of regulation theory to sex addiction treatment. Other publications in 2010 include Family Therapy, and Counselor Magazine.

Alex is the 2012 recipient of the Carnes Award, a prestigious acknowledgement for her contributions to the field of sex addiction.  She was a contributing writer of Making Advances: A Comprehensive Guide for Treating Female Sex and Love Addicts, published by SASH in 2012. Professional affiliations include Certified Sex Addiction Therapist/Supervisor, International Institute of Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), Certified Sex Therapist/membership American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH), American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS), and the Global Association for Interpersonal Neurobiology (GAINS).

Her latest book is Mirror of Intimacy: Daily Reflections on Emotional and Erotic Intelligence, co-authored with Tom Bliss, published on Amazon in December 2014. in June 2015, Mirror of Intimacy received the 2014 AASECT Book Award by the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists.
