Knowing what to do and being able to do it are often two very different things. Most people don't come to therapy with me because they don't know what they should do—they come because, despite their best efforts, they can't cut back on drinking, calm an anxious mind, stop obsessive thoughts, or change recurring relationship patterns. My work focuses on understanding why some behaviours and thoughts persist and helping you change them using practical, research-backed approaches. Alongside my private practice, I work at a Swiss inpatient rehabilitation clinic treating addictions and mental health conditions (OCD, panic attacks, ADHD).

Living abroad is exciting, challenging and much more. Both new and existing challenges can be more difficult to manage while living outside your home country. Our problems can be magnified due to a lack of support system, cultural barriers and misunderstandings. Finding a resource who understand this, someone that can provide counseling services from a multi-cultural perspective, in fluent English, can be daunting. If you are looking for a counselor in Basel, see my website for more information. I offer my services in person in my Basel office as well as virtually-visit website for more information.

We experience difficulties in different ways. Often people seek therapy when they have been feeling feeling more anxious, stressed or frustrated more than usual, sometimes indicating a life transition such as relationship problems or difficulties at work. At other times clients get in touch when they noticed that something does not feel good but are still unsure of the reasons that may lie beneath and are keen to develop insight. We will build a shared understanding of current difficulties, and together will identify your hopes, goals and needsI draw from psychological evidence-based approaches to inform your unique treatment plan.

Emotion complements reason in ways which can be confusing, especially considering the social animal we are as humans: living with remarkable sensitivity to one another. Emotion guides us toward knowing our unmet needs. In therapy, only you can be the expert of your inner world's path. It is an honor to accompany you while maintaining focus on your goals, limiting distraction and avoidance behaviors, and fostering opportunities for appropriate self advocacy and self compassion.

Infertility Counsellors
How can infertility affect couples and their relationship?
Clients who are dealing with infertility may experience conflict and communication problems. It’s not unusual for shame, blame, and guilt to arise in cases of infertility, whether the source of the problem is one partner or both. This means that clients are upset and pulling away from their partner just when they need them the most. Some clients may find it difficult to spend time around friends and family who are pregnant. Friends and family can also make hurtful comments that increase tension during this time.
How does therapy for infertility issues work?
The therapist will begin by gathering information about the client or couple and make a treatment plan for their specific concerns. In addition to addressing common mental health issues, such as anxiety, depression, and trauma reactions or PTSD, therapists can help clients improve their decision-making and deal with stressors unique to infertility. Some examples include coping with the “two-week wait” before a pregnancy test, the distress associated with a failed attempt or miscarriage, and the shame and blame sometimes associated with reproductive concerns.
What type of therapy is best for infertility issues?
Many therapists offer psychotherapy for individuals and couples who are dealing with infertility issues. Some helpful therapeutic approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which can aid clients in reframing negative thoughts about their situation. Expressive writing and art therapy can help clients process difficult feelings. Clients might also benefit from group therapy to experience support from others who are dealing with the same problems.
How long does therapy for infertility issues take?
There is no set length for therapy that addresses infertility or reproductive concerns. Some clients might find it helpful to continue therapy during their pregnancy to have healthy ways to cope with any associated stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma. Some clients who decide not to pursue fertility treatments might benefit from the support of a therapist. The duration of therapy varies depending on the individual client’s specific needs and goals.
