Bellwood is a one-of-a-kind facility, the first of its kind in Ontario, Canada. Patients are treated with a comprehensive approach to mental health and addiction recovery. With a focus on well-being and medical staff who are passionate about their work and your success. Bellwood specializes in treating patients with addiction and mental health disorders, with treatment including: Substance use and mental health disorders including detox, stabilization, psychoeducation, skill-building and relapse prevention • Eating disorders • Interpersonal trauma • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (in partnership with Sunnybrook). In addition, Bellwood offers expert support for: Concurrent disorders • Those struggling with relapse • Military, Veterans, and First Responders • Healthcare providers and other professionals who have access to controlled substances as part of their job • Concussion and acquired brain injury concurrent with addiction • And family members of those struggling with mental health disorders or addiction.

Addiction and mental health disorders can take their toll on family and marital relationships, careers and finances, physical health, and spiritual well-being. Together, our team of counsellors, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, nutritionists, family therapists, and physical health staff approaches treatment from a comprehensive perspective. Our treatments and services include: • Detox and withdrawal management • 24/7 Medical care and nursing support • On-site psychiatrists and a team of highly qualified mental health professionals • Evidence-based therapies, including CBT and DBT • Integrated care (yoga, meditation, fitness, nutrition, sleep hygiene, art therapy) • Family therapy • Relapse prevention strategies • Comprehensive discharge planning, involving community care providers • Online recovery tools via the EHN Online App • And a lifelong alumni network.
A Tradition of Recovery
Bellwood’s name and treatments are both inspired by the pioneering work of Dr. Gordon Bell. Throughout the 1950s, he worked to learn about and from people struggling with alcoholism and drug addiction. At the time, it was a topic rarely discussed publicly, or even within the medical field. In 1967, he opened the Donwood, the first facility of its kind in Canada. In 1982, he founded Bellwood Health Services, which championed mental health and addiction services. Today, Bellwood honours his legacy and strives to continue his ground-breaking work and successful treatment. Bellwood is also part of EHN Canada, the country’s largest network of industry-leading mental health and addiction treatment facilities. Peer Support Group
Peer support groups are offered to clients during and after treatment to help throughout one's recovery journey. Examples of some groups but not limited are Alcoholics Anonymous and SMART Recovery.

Aftercare Group
Aftercare groups are in place to focus on the unique needs and experiences of individuals in their initial year of recovery and back into everyday life. Topics are formed by group members depending on the needs. Some topics include reintegrating into everyday work and family life, triggers, grief/ loss and issues pertaining to self-esteem.

Family Group
Family groups are in place to help family members of individuals struggling with addiction or alcoholism. Often times family members are negatively impacted and experience increased levels of stress and emotions. Family groups also focus on setting healthy boundaries and positive ways of understanding and coping with addiction in relationships and families.
