I am a certified secondary school teacher who specializes in supporting people with ADHD who wish to attend post-secondary education. A high percentage of ADDers do not make it through their first year of college or university. Contributing to failure are lack of structure, poor organization and planning skills, lack of self-awareness emotional and cognitive overload. I help you identify areas that cause challenges to success by comparing your unique ADHD with the demands of independent living and academia. We use this information to build a clear, organized, structured program that is designed to increase independence over time.

This may be your first time working with a therapist or maybe a venture away from avenues you've explored so far. I'm happy to meet you at any stage of your journey and offer kindness and empathy while walking that path with you. In particular, I have a compassionate understanding of the struggles known by those experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, PTSD/CPTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, BPD, grief, and difficulty with relationships, self-esteem, and intimacy. I’ve worked extensively with first responders and military. Under unbearable weight, I understand that addiction and self-harming patterns are often a means of coping.

It’s important to me, as a human and therapist, that you are understood. One of the first things they teach counselors is that you must truly engage with clients through listening. My goal is to meet you with compassion and curiosity in order to tackle life’s challenges with unconditional positive regard. Without this baseline of curious, active listening, there’s no room to build an invaluable therapeutic relationship, where the best healing and growth takes place. Once there we will set goals, uncover patterns and values, identify how you make meaning, and - by the end of our time together - have you closer to who you want to be.

I find hope in what seems to be hopeless situations and clients trust that I can help without judgment. Listening to my clients' personal stories is both an honour and a privilege; feeling heard and understood is often their first significant step towards change. Mostly what I've found is that in my 30 years in the field of psychology and mental health, most of us can work through most of life's little challenges. When you have a challenge that you can't quite get past on your own - There's Counselling for That!

Every one of us has periods where we feel stuck; navigating difficulties in your relationship, struck with anxiety, or burdened by grief because of loss can all bring up complex thoughts and emotions that can be challenging to find our way through. If you’ve landed here, you've likely recognized that it's time to shift, somehow. It can be incredibly helpful have support in this process with someone who can help you to explore your situation with care, non-judgmental curiosity, and to search for a solid path through these murky seasons, in ways that work best for you.

Many of us struggle with emotional experiences that knock us off our feet. Low mood and chronic stress; difficulty with trust and relationships; and difficulty with overwhelm, focus, or organization are painful and isolating experiences. Unfortunately, we’re surrounded with messaging that if only we tried harder, we could think or act our way out of these experiences - leaving us feeling even more alone or frustrated if things don’t change.

My practice is person-centered, strength-based, trauma informed. I think that each person coming to therapy is unique. Each person attempts to do the best possible with the resources available. Each person has wisdom, creativity, and strength, and is the authority in their life. Doing counselling means providing a safer space for you to tell your story. And it is a space for us to have conversations and to work together.

"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions"- Dalai Lama. Life can be challenging. Navigating those challenges can feel overwhelming at times, but you do not have to do it alone. Reaching out takes a tremendous amount of courage and I would be honoured to be a part of your healing journey. I believe that a strong therapeutic connection contributes greatly to healing and that it is essential to meet clients where they are at in their own personal journey and work forward together.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
