I am passionate about empowering people to break the cycles of trauma. My focus is working with women and mothers of young children, offering them a space free of judgement to explore their emotions, memories and re-connect with their inner strength. With the use of curiosity as an important tool, we look at new possibilities of self-perception and awareness of the impacts that trauma may have caused on the nervous system. The discoveries done in sessions build into internal resources that can be accessed outside of the therapy room, reinforcing the person's sense of agency.

I am an integrative psychotherapist and bring curiosity, warmth, compassion, and a sense of humor to the therapeutic relationship. I use a collaborative, strength-based, and relational approach focused on promoting long-lasting change. Fundamentally, we are social beings, embedded in complicated social relationships. It is my belief that many struggles people face are linked to how they experience these relationships and how larger structural and societal issues impact these relationships. I strive to work side-by-side with my clients in the healing process, helping them to pave the way toward a more authentic and satisfying life.

Hola a todes. Welcome! I believe that patterns of behaviours speak of each person’s history individually as well as collectively, since we are immersed in a vast array of cultural spaces that bestow upon us knowledge, traditions, thoughts of freedom but also trauma and limitations. I offer a holistic approach to healing, working through experiences of suffering and dis-ease with a Lacanian Psychoanalysis and Jungian Deep Psychology foundation. My practice is deeply rooted and further enhanced by the spiritual teachings of Mahayana Buddhism and Advaita Vedanta. These principles are integrated into every aspect of my life and work.

I see people with any of the following: depression with or without suicidal impulses; relationship problems like infidelity or chronic fighting; painful experiences, including abuse and other traumatic events; losses such as through grief, divorce, or disrupted expectations of future good health for oneself or a family member; excessive worrying that can seriously affect daily life -- often alongside relentless self-checking, problems with decisions, and difficulty tolerating uncertainty; living with a variety of physical conditions and medical illnesses; impulsive decisions around drugs, alcohol, money, sex, and relationships; crises over meaning in life -- often with goal uncertainty and feelings of despair.

I am a Registered Psychologist and see clients at my office in Vancouver (Kitsilano). Through a respectful, non-judgemental, client-centred approach, my clients are empowered to become active participants in the treatment process. They learn the skills necessary to cope with difficult emotions and life experiences. I have extensive experience in the treatment of adolescents and adults through my private practice and my work in the public service. The approaches I use include cognitive-behavioural, systemic, brief and solution-focused therapies. However, I will always tailor my treatment and interventions to the needs of my client.

Decipher Counselling Art Therapy Studio offers creative, justice-oriented therapy for people dealing with experiences of invalidation, including any and all underrepresented communities. This may include processing trauma, navigating identities, life transitions, and power differences. We aim to create a space where people of all intersectionalities can feel like they belong. To feel like they can be themselves in their most unique ways. Where their stories will be heard and held. We work to decolonize therapy in our therapy practice and personally around our identities.

Do you wonder if you’re the only one around who experiences the world with the intensity you do? Depending on how stressed you are, it may feel like you’re on alert or like you’re living in a soundproof glass box, cut off from others. You may have a hard time focusing on conversations with co-workers and family. You might have been told you’re "oversensitive" or have "no filter.". You may be feeling frustrated with yourself for not being able to get things together and just move forward, but the pandemic has made everything harder, and it feels like there are always too many moving parts. You want for a space to talk this through.

We all struggle at times. Whether it is a low mood that lingers too long, or anxiety that inhibits your life. Feeling like a failure, a bad parent, or like you just do not feel at home in your skin can start to feel like it poisons everything. Confidence dwindles, emotions feel too unpredictable, or stress seems to get under your skin more than it used to. You may be finding that your close relationships are more stressful than they used to be. Life may feel like it’s getting smaller and smaller. You know something has to change. It is time to reach out for help.

I work with people desiring stronger, deeper and more fulfilling relationships with themselves, and with other people. If you're struggling to feel well and to live the life you want, you may feel cut off from your core sense of self. You may have faced a rupture in trust, experienced deep loss, or not had the care you needed when you needed it most. You may find yourself locked in unhelpful cycles, caught in upsetting memories from the past, or turning to mindless distractions or harmful comforts. You may long to understand your own inner world more completely, or to engage life in a way that feels congruent with who you are.

I work with people who want richer, more connected, more authentic lives, but something holds them back. Traditional therapy is terrific for the mind, but the source of the issue is often deeper, held in the body. We work together to heal the body, the subconscious, and sometimes the spiritual self. IFS, AEDP, and mindfulness influence my approach, but I adjust depending on the needs of the individual. I aim to be feminist, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive, which means the client is always the expert on their own experience. We work collaboratively using a range of tools to find the right path forward for you.

What type of mental health professional is right for me?
While most types of therapy have a lot in common, they also fall into clusters that share core features, such as cognitive therapies or psychodynamic approaches. It is important to seek someone who practices evidence-based therapy, meaning one or more forms of treatment that have been scientifically evaluated and tested, and demonstrate consistent improvement for a majority of patients.

If you are unsure about choosing the right therapist, psychologist, or counsellor, it might be useful to first learn more about therapy types and modalities.

How to find a therapist or counsellor in V6T?
When looking to find a therapist, start by considering training and credentials. Studies also indicate that the therapeutic alliance, or the relationship the client develops with the therapist, is an important factor in their ability to work together to achieve the client’s goals.

What method of therapy is right for me?
When it comes to treatment methods, there's no 'right way.’ Each method of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of issues. Psychologists in V6T specialize in therapeutic approaches such as CBT, EMDR, and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), among others. Finding a psychologist or therapist who is a good fit for you is the most important step to discovering what type of therapy, or combination of therapeutic approaches, will meet your individual needs. Learn what to expect from different types of therapy and how they work.

How to use my insurance?
Many therapists accept health insurance. Check to see if your insurance is covered. Feel free to discuss this when you contact the therapist.
