UPDATE to Everyone at Psychology Today: In addition to my individual therapy practice, I am excited to host "Grewp Together" - it's for people 35 years old and up who are burned out, feeling maxed, and always on. Go to the grewptogether (dot ca) site to check it out. Starting this fall. Reach out with questions. It's affordable and a wonderful way to build community. I know what it's like to be managing intense emotions, worry, and big decisions AND I know how to start feeling yourself again. Be it through individual work or group work, it's possible to feel stronger on the other side.

You are longing to find healing and growth, in a world designed to exhaust you. I support you using practical, evidence-based techniques, authentic connection, and a touch of humour. I work with adults, couples, and teens, in these focus areas: identity, relationships (incl. poly/CNM, kink), sex, self-esteem, and life changes. For individuals, we will work through life's complexities and untangle narratives you have internalized, perhaps unconsciously, that impact how you show up in the world. For couples, we will look deeper into conflict to find the heart of what you are really yearning for: connection, appreciation, safety.

You're always welcome here. When you don't know where to start, looking into therapy can feel nerve-racking. This is a warm, welcoming, and safe space for anyone who needs support. There is support for whatever you are carrying: anxiety, uncertainty, change - you don't have to move through it alone. I work with adults and youth (16+), and bring a relational, compassionate, and collaborative approach to sessions. I know what it's like to feel a little out of place in spaces that weren't quite made for you, which is why I work hard to create a space where people of all backgrounds and identities feel seen and heard.

Mental health problems are fairly common among Canadians, with estimates that 20% of Canadians experience a mental health issue each year. Yet, people often suffer through these issues on their own. Just because you're going through a difficult time now doesn't mean it will always be this way. Speaking with a psychologist can help you move past these issues to get you back on track.

You may be struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, or persistent feelings of self-doubt and not feeling good enough. From the outside, you seem capable and put together, but inside you're exhausted from carrying so much on your own. Perhaps you're a parent managing the mental load for everyone else, a professional who keeps achieving but never quite feels settled, or someone who has spent so much time taking care of others that you've lost touch with what you need. For over a decade, I've supported adults navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, and challenges with self-worth.

Most people who reach out are not broken. They are carrying more than they were ever shown how to hold. Something feels off in a relationship, in themselves, or in the distance between who they are and how they are living. They may not have words for it yet. They just know that what they have been doing is no longer working. They are ready to slow down, listen more carefully to what is underneath, and find a way forward that feels honest and sustainable.

I'm Conlan Mansfield, a clinical counsellor in Vancouver offering steady, thoughtful support for people who carry a lot beneath a composed exterior — including those navigating substance use, recovery, or the exhaustion of holding things together for a long time. Many clients I work with are responsible, reflective, and self-reliant — the kind of people others depend on — yet find themselves overwhelmed, uncertain, or worn down inside. I provide a space where you don't have to hold everything together alone.

As an individual counselor, I am deeply passionate about working with queer and racialized individuals through their anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, sexual and gender identity, cultural expectations, substance use, and suicide. Many of my clients are confirmed or self-identified part of the LGBTQ+ community, first-generation immigrants, and university students.

How you are and feel in your relationships shapes everything, from your health to your energy, your actions and your sense of self. Science confirms it: the quality of our relationships is the greatest predictor of both mental and physical health. Perhaps it's time to build more clarity and honesty with yourself, your family, and the world around you. With the right guidance, that clarity becomes confidence.

The wounds of a painful childhood can last long into adulthood, challenging our ability to manage our emotions, care for our bodies and build healthy relationships. We may feel that we lose control of our responses, only to feel guilty or shameful later. In therapy, we learn that the way we act or respond is a reflection of how we feel inside. Often, there are needs that have gone unmet. If you're feeling disconnected from your self, your needs and your body, we can gently learn to rebuild these connections through a combination of talk therapy, movement, breath, meditation, and creative expression.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
