You have felt the weight of expectations to conform to other’s standards of who you “should” be for as long as you can remember. It might feel extra draining as the pressure comes from multiple sources- perhaps from family, friends, religion, school, or society. You’re fed up with spinning in the same circles and experiencing the same internal conflict; parts of you are done with feeling unseen and misunderstood, while other parts of you have concerns about being a burden or have fears about being perceived. Together, let's create a space where you don't need anyone's approval or to be anything other than exactly who you are.

Healing Waves Counselling was created to provide people with a different type of healing experience. We live in such a fast-paced society where we are constantly striving to compete, do better, and make more money that we forget to be present. We want people to be able to work through their trauma and have them feel comfortable in their own skin, to reconnect people with themselves, reconnect with nature and the earth. Reconnecting to the environment and our surroundings can be so healing and grounding. We are here to walk with the client side by side on their journey. They are the experts of their own

I'm Sasha - a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology (MEd) from SFU. I know first hand that it can get confusing and overwhelming, paralyzing and terrifying, to just be with yourself, in your own head; that's why I'm called to help. Trauma-informed, Narrative, and Emotion Focused Therapy are at the core of my services, because I believe that all behaviour comes from somewhere learned; understanding the impact of your unique experiences it the first step in making change towards more value- aligned behaviours, and ultimately a life lived with more ease.

As a Registered Psychologist, I work from a positive place, seeing disordered behaviours as ways of coping that create problems as well as solves them. I work collaboratively with my clients to identify their goals and desires. We may use a motivational approach at first, if appropriate. Then we may focus on barriers to recovery, dysfunctional thinking, practical strategies for change, and past painful experiences or trauma, if relevant, using relationship-based, cognitive behaviour therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and emotion focused approaches. At the end of our session, I write my notes in the form of a letter to share.

My mentor once asked me why I wanted to be a therapist and I said I wanted to help people out of hell. I personally have known such pain and therapy saved my life. I work one-on-one with co-dependents, people with addiction and anxious and/or depressed individuals. I worked for 30 years in an outpatient clinic and used such models of therapy as CBT, DBT and client centred. I especially like to work with people suffering from trauma. So many memories from childhood lie buried; not conscious and yet they have such a self-destructive impact on our identity, emotions and behaviour.

Sometimes, it may seem impossible to show up confidently in our unique ways of expression and remain in connection with others. I know what it is like to feel alone, to feel stuck without a clear way forward. It takes courage to seek support with a desire to enter the world differently.

As a trauma therapist who is neurodivergent myself, I understand what it’s like to navigate a world that doesn’t seem built for you. Sometimes we find ourselves masking to meet societal standards at the cost of our authenticity and mental and physical well-being. Other times, we mask for so long, we forget who we are. In my sessions, you can expect a therapist who is genuine, empathetic, and above all, passionate about creating a safe space for you to unmask. I believe therapy is not about someone passively hearing your story–it is about collaborating with someone who is actively engaged in a way that honours your lived experience.

As the daughter of low-income immigrants, I intimately understand the complexities of navigating bicultural expectations and growing up with limited resources. I bring firsthand experience that allows me to deeply grasp the complexity and importance of incorporating an intersectional framework. Growing up, I rarely encountered BIPOC representation, making it more meaningful for me today to serve as a woman of colour counsellor. I have consistently sought roles in the helping profession that involve supporting others. I offer various forms of support to families and individuals with a wide range of mental health needs.

Welcome! I am so glad that you found my page. I offer a warm, judgement-free place where you can bring your whole self and be accepted just as you are. I believe everyone is doing the best they can with what they learned, and that many of the things we learned to survive may not be serving us anymore. Together we can explore these ways of coping and discover new ways of being with oneself and others that align with your personal values and goals. I will be open about what we are doing and why, and you will be in control of the process.
