One of the most rewarding feelings in life is to feel a sense of ease and acceptance with who you are, despite your vulnerabilities. Like many others, it might be difficult for you to lean on others, yet you face challenges in managing your own emotions. Some days leave you feeling empty, and at times worry or anger may consume you. You may feel disconnected from others or who you once were. I have been in the education system for 15 years and have extensive experience working with a variety of people struggling with difficult family dynamics, anxiety, depression, separation, divorce, trauma, major life transitions, and abuse.

The space I invite you into is free of judgment. It is open to anyone- regardless of any personal or societal judgment they may be enduring. Everyone is deserving of a listening/healing space. I accompany those seeking help through depression, grief, and trauma. Sometimes we explore thoughts together and oftentimes we are understanding and navigating the world of emotions - a language that we all continue to learn in life. By connecting with our inner world we may better navigate our lives toward living more genuinely, with self-worth and joy.

I am intrigued by helping people navigate their own stories and build the life they want. I work with adults and youth 13+ in helping them understand themselves and the world around them a little better. I believe that counselling can bring insight and perspective that can help transform our experiences. The connection between the counsellor and client is critical in laying the groundwork to inspire positive growth.

You feel disconnected and unhappy. You’ve lost interest in things you once enjoyed and spend a lot of time on your phone or computer to distract you from the stress in your life. You have goals and dreams that you’d like to pursue but fear of failure and procrastination leave you feeling paralyzed. It’s hard to imagine a bright future or things changing, but you haven’t given up yet. You want to have a clear path forward so you can find enjoyment and meaning in your work, relationships, and hobbies.

I specialize in treating Type-C Personalities (Conscientious/Competent/Self-Controlled). These tend to be people who are dedicated hard-workers, concerned about the welfare of others, and wanting to ensure that they are doing “the right thing”. Driven by strong internal values and principles, they often get hard on themselves, believing that they can “always do more”. This can complicate things for them--at work, at home, and in relationships--as while they take pride for being dependable/reliable individuals, they struggle to open up to others. This can lead to burnout, a felt sense of loneliness and isolation, and chronic pain.

I strongly believe that we all have the capacity to heal and to move towards our preferred future. We often can't do this alone. Collaborating with you and attuning my practice to ways that work best for you, I offer a safe space for reflection and insight building. I have worked with a broad range of people over the years and bring with me a commitment to anti-oppressive practice and attention to the contexts that contribute to suffering and to healing. We are living in a time of immense stress and increased isolation and this takes a toll. Reaching out for support is an important act of wellness and I welcome your enquiry.

Whether you are seeking support as a result of a sudden transition in your life or a longstanding issue that has just become too heavy to carry, I believe therapy can offer a unique space for healing and growth. I have extensive experience working with adults experiencing anxiety, sadness, stress, chronic pain, and trauma in both private practice and in treatment settings. I also work with couples to reduce conflict and help clients go from cycles of blame, distancing, and resentment to feeling loved and connected.

Moments of struggle are inevitable. However, when we are at a crossroads, we can begin seeing ourselves more clearly. My practice, Liminal Space Counselling, is founded on the idea that the space between two points in our lives is a chance to reflect and begin again.

I draw on the commonalities that exist between therapeutic approaches, and am aligned with anti-oppression perspectives. I utilize deep, introspective practices and pragmatic, solution-oriented practices to help clients cultivate greater self-compassion; achieve greater effectiveness in their relationships and communities; and grow towards deeper fulfillment in their lives. I am also able to offer a truly holistic therapy, combining talk therapy, mindfulness, and movement. I am a good fit for those impacted by marginalization, those with shame and self-esteem challenges, those impacted by trauma and addiction, and for couples.

I’m interested in people’s stories and providing a safe space where we can tell their story in a way that is meaningful and important to them. One of the main goals of counselling is to activate your own ability for compassion, healing, motivation, and hope. I am open to working with people from all walks of life and identities, and I’m interested in hearing about your individual experiences and perspectives. There is no shame or blame in having a tough time or not being sure what you would like to happen in this chapter of your life.

Perhaps you’re here because you’ve reached your tipping point in life, or find yourself reacting in big ways to seemingly small things and feeling out of control with what life has thrown your way. Maybe you’d like to see a shift in how you view yourself and those around you. Whatever struggles you are facing right now, please know that your journey doesn't have to be taken alone. Change is possible when you feel seen, heard, and cared for. Together we can uncover unhelpful patterns, process difficult emotions, and become more deeply connected to ourselves and others.

Life can be extremely painful and difficult, especially when you don't have healthy relationships with people that you trust, or that understand you. Authentic connection to self and others is a fundamental need for humans, and without it we can feel even more alone, empty, depressed, anxious, or we can feel that life is meaningless. Not everyone we know is able to handle the weight of our struggles, and this can make it harder to reach out when support is needed. We also may be afraid to burden others with our problems, or we may feel that something is "wrong" with us if we seek help, causing us to suffer in silence.

This world is a lot of power imbalances, mixed messages, conditional "love," and trauma triggers, and now and again it could get exhausting to try to find a way to live fully. But we can figure this out together. We can free our joy into a belly laugh, embody deep knowing and confidence, ground in self-worth and safety, and explore genuine connections. It would be an honour to do this journey with you. What type of mental health professional is right for me?
Some of the most common types of mental health providers in V5L are psychologists, licensed counselors, therapists, psychotherapists, and licensed clinical social workers, all of whom diagnose mental health conditions and provide individualized treatment.

Services offered, education and credentials vary by type of mental health professional. Each professional in V5L then may specialize in certain areas, such as depression, marriage counseling, or anxiety. Although many mental health providers are not licensed to prescribe medication, they may coordinate with a provider who can.

Both in-person and online therapy sessions are available from most psychologists.
