Inner State of Being

My notion is based on the idea that when humans awaken to self-realization that we cannot control what happens to us in life, but we can control what we feel and how we will respond; then suffering is only a choice. My counselling style will help clients work towards developing control of their mental afflictions through a series of steps. I believe in building a solid foundational knowledge of the mind-body connection, strengthening self-awareness first, and then building upwards. What matters is my clients' current state of being.

You’re trying hard to keep it all together, but you’re exhausted. Life seems out of your control and every small decision feels too big to handle. You are unsure of who you are or where you belong. It's a battle to get out of bed and face another day. The weight of it all is suffocating and you’re terrified that life can never be different or better.

The clients I work with understand that there is a spiritual thread that weaves beneath the surface of their lives, and they are seeking guidance on how to re-connect to this important aspect of who they are. I commonly work with fertility struggles, grief processing, depression, overwhelm, addictions, anxiety, relationship conflict, eating disorders, low self esteem, trust issues, and clients who are simply unhappy with the current state of their life. Ultimately, my clients are searching for balance between the mind, body and spirit aspects of self, which when in alignment, can lead to a heart-centered, joyful, fulfilling life.

As my mentors have helped me in my life, and as they have guided me through difficult points of self-growth and reflection, I have come to learn the value of being there for others to progress through our own difficult times. We need each other. I do believe it is far less problematic to overcome challenges with guidance and direction. Even more so when that guidance is refined through education, experience, and a standardized expectation of practice.

I believe that every person is unique and there is no real cookie cutter approach in therapy. I use techniques that best suit the client and their needs. My style heavily relies on creating a safe and collaborative relationship with the client. I ensure that there is no hierarchy between myself and the person I am supporting. I do my best to really listen to the person and empathize with their experiences. We ultimately work together as one unit and work towards achieving the clients’ goals in therapy.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In Canada, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or province where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
How much does therapy cost?
Some forms of mental health treatment (for example, seeing a psychiatrist, or seeing a psychologist in a government-funded hospital) are free under provincial health plans. Canadians who seek private counseling can typically expect to pay an average of $150 per session, although the actual price generally ranges between $100 and $3200 per session, depending on their location and the type of provider they select. Workplace benefits or private insurance plans often provide an annual counselling allowance, and some therapists offer sliding scale fees to clients who cannot pay full price.
