My approaches are rooted in trauma-theory, attachment theory, and are client centered.
Counselling is about helping the client. What this looks like will differ for each individual. My role as a therapist is to support you in the ways that will meet your individual needs, wants, goals and expectations. Together we build a relationship where the focus is on understanding the healing that has to take place in order for you to grow in the ways that you are looking for. I work with adults, youth, and support a variety of issues, including PTSD, addictions, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, and relationships.

As a Clinical Mental Health counselor I help clients with anxiety and depression understand how to heal their nervous system. I meet clients where they are at and we decide together the best course of action for moving forward. I am a trauma therapist and I help people to understand their healing journey. I provide tools for emotional regulation, and calming an overactive nervous system. I also provide tools for shifting beliefs and increasing well being daily. I use Safe and Sound an inner ear acoustic intervention that is evidence based and has been shown to calm an overactive nervous system which is so important for therapy.

Processing unresolved trauma is my specialty, but I also do grief counselling, and work with anxiety disorders and depression.
I have been counselling for over a decade and after thousands of clinical hours I still love my job. I am honored to have listened to so many lives and unique perspectives, and it is my distinct pleasure to have partnered with so many people in working towards their goals. I love results . I love being an agent of change in people's lives: seeing confidence replace anxiety; or acceptance chase away shame; or renewed strength rise up where one feels weary. I enjoy working with a wide variety of people and situations. I am excellent at handling emotionally loaded experiences with the utmost care and respect.

I work with trauma, and have helped many adult survivors.
At the deepest level, you want to be seen, understood and accepted. And then you want partnership and support as you work on changing your life. Are you sad too much? Struggling? Fearful? Do you give yourself a hard time? Perhaps right now is the time -- the time to take yourself on as a project. I work with traumatic grief and loss — with some of the most painful experiences people endure.

This can stem from past trauma, abusive relationships, sexual assault, spiritual crisis, patriarchal social conditioning, loss of a loved one, or life transitions.
What a courageous step you're taking, to reach out for help. I honour what you've been through to bring you to this moment. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed with life and trying to "hold it all together", or maybe your needs are falling to the bottom of the priority list. Maybe you notice patterns in your life that keep repeating such as perfectionism, negative self-talk, destructive behaviours, unsatisfying relationships, or mindlessly distracting yourself. If you yearn to: know and trust yourself more deeply, be more gentle and tender with yourself, and feel the freedom to be yourself, I am here to support your journey.

Trauma therapies can heal from the root, untangling stuckness and allow people to choose responses that better fit their current realities over reactions that reflect the past.
Living in today's world is hard and complex. Psychotherapies have also evolved a lot in the past 10 years, and the timing is ripe to heal intergenerational trauma. My approach seeks to meet people where they are at and provide a deep understanding from which change can happen. I've been a therapist for 14 years and retrained in trauma therapies such as EMDR and Somatic Psychotherapy halfway through my career. I have a lot of trust in people's ability to heal and change, having witnessed these profound journeys many times.

If you're struggling with repressed trauma, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, relationships, or life transitions, these are areas we can work through together.
I help people learn to forgive themselves for the things they had to do in order to survive. I believe that when we feel safe in our body and free from the shackles of our past, we can create our dream reality. By honouring our sensitive nature, and creating a safe space to explore, we can set our inner child free - inviting playfulness, humour, and curiosity to the healing process. We are not what has happened to us, we are who we choose to become. I'm here to help you discover who you truly are on a soul level.

I support people in finding the sparkle, hope, and joy in life again. The weight of the world, trauma, and our personal experiences can sometimes be very heavy, which can lead to depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, feeling numb or feeling burnt out. Counselling with me will strengthen the ways you cope, help you re-story what is going on for you (you are already the main character in your life!), and support you in changing negative or self-deprecating thought patterns.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
