Another method I use is EMI (Eye Movement Integration), to treat PTSD and C-PTSD.
Hi, I am Tasha... 17 years ago I was hospitalized for depression, after I had my first child. I felt hopeless and I felt that I had no excuse for why I couldn't "do life" and be happy like others seemed to be able to do. I was worried for the future of my child, I had witnessed too much human heartache to dream good things about the future. 5 years ago, I began my counsellor training. What I discovered changed my life. I am no longer ashamed that I struggled with depression. Depression is simply the opposite of expression. Addiction is simply the opposite of connection. I want to help restore hope to you and your loved ones.

I enjoy working with anyone struggling with their mental health and I have a special interest in working with people suffering from trauma and comorbid and differential mental health diagnoses.
I am a Mexican-Canadian, loving living in the Great White North. I am a wife and a loving mother of a sometimes-too-smart-for-her-own-good toddler and three fur babies. I am also a nerd who enjoys board games and a good cup of coffee. My professional life took me down many different roads until I finally realized my passion was to listen and help people, particularly those who feel they do not deserve help.

I am so glad that you have decided to take control of your healing - I know it can be hard to do. I admire the fact you are here, because I know how challenging it back be to take this first step. It would be my privilege to support you through all the steps that follow as you recover, heal, and create the life you want and deserve. I support clients who are tired of feeling anxious, stressed, and/or depressed; who want to silence that inner-critic, heal from pain and loss, build their self esteem, improve their relationships, and take charge of their lives again.

I am a registered social worker (MSW) having spent much of my professional life supporting children, youth, and young women in various capacities including mental health counselling, program facilitation; community development; crisis and trauma response; and child and family advocacy.
When it comes to counselling it’s important to find someone who is good fit for you. I may or may not be that person! Learning a bit about me might help you figure this out or reaching out to share what you are looking for might also help. I am okay not being the right fit, what is important is that you get what you need out of counselling; I can always make suggestions for other people who might be more suited to what you are looking for!

I help you understand the legacy of trauma in your body and mind, create a sense of safety in your nervous system, and process emotional energy you're holding.
I work with people who feel stuck or overwhelmed. My clients want freedom from patterns in behaviour, emotions and relationships that keep them suffering and drain their energy. This can show up as anxiety or depression symptoms, relationship struggles, addictive behaviours (like overworking, compulsive eating or exercise), or physical symptoms (from chronic fatigue or pain to autoimmune conditions).

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
