You are here because life as a parent isn't exactly what you expected. Your relationship is falling apart, your child has additional needs that feel overwhelming and you are unsure where to start but know this isn't ok. You never feel like you are doing enough, and are triggered by the parenting demands or feel over run by appointments for them while unsure how to help yourself. Your parents also have needs and in the sandwich generation you are struggling to process your own grief and trauma while supporting your kid's struggles. You deserve to feel better. Your kids deserve to feel better.

Through my healing, I learned different tools to deal with anxiety, depression, PTSD, & pain.
How could a car, your boss, the classroom, the smell of marijuana, or a second-story window make your thoughts race & hands shake, with massive amounts of anxiety? Your well-meaning friends say “we all have something,” and it feels like no one understands. What you’re feeling is very real. In 2003 my spinal cord was punctured during an epidural procedure. It led to chronic pain. Several years later I suffered a stroke. When the ambulance came, they were convinced I was drunk. Only problem: I don't drink. I know what it’s like to be misunderstood. It’s provided me with empathy & understanding as we work together on your healing path.

My experience includes trauma-based therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), motivational interviewing, narrative therapy techniques, collaborative problem solving and positive parenting strategies.
I offer in-office counselling through Dandelion Counselling in Orillia. I am a counselor who utilizes a holistic and eclectic approach because I recognize that no single modality meets everyone’s needs in a meaningful way. I value creating a collaborative, therapeutic relationship and I meet clients where they are at in the present moment whether they are seeking a safe, non-judgmental space to explore their thoughts, feelings and needs, or have specific goals that they want to address.

I provide individual therapy (including children 7+) for difficult life transitions, divorce/separation, grief/loss, anger and stress management, anxiety, depression, trauma, and low self-esteem.
I have always had a passion for helping others. With previous work experience in different environments, I have been exposed to the complexities of life, which has developed my belief that change, growth and healing is possible if individuals are supported with compassion, empathy, and non-judgement. This belief has become my therapeutic approach, along with recognizing and valuing that each client is unique, making the therapy process unique.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that helps heal trauma, anxiety, depression, and other emotional wounds by reprocessing distressing memories, reducing their impact, and promoting lasting relief.
Welcome! I'm a Social Worker passionate about helping individuals seeking support on their mental health journey. I combine the power of Internal Family Systems and EMDR. EMDR has the power to reduce the emotional impact of traumatic or troublesome historical or present-day memories, beliefs or experiences by desensitizing them and giving the brain space to come to a resolution about what's happened at a neural network level. It's like rewiring your brain to handle difficult experiences with greater clarity often leading to rapid relief and lasting change. We can also use this same tool to help with future-related concerns!

My theoretical approach to therapy utilizes relational attachment, trauma and cognitive explanations to human emotional and behavioural suffering.
Going to therapy, particularly for the first time, can be difficult. You may want someone who can give you direction or tools, who you can also connect with and feel supported by. At my practice, I strive to provide a good therapeutic relationship with someone who is warm, caring, competent and knowledgeable.

In addition to working with ADHD, anxiety/stress and depression, I have a keen interest in supporting clients who are dealing with "Imposter Syndrome", multicultural issues, LGBTQIA+, transgenerational/racial trauma and youth/teen issues.
ADHD, Stress/Anxiety, Self-Esteem, LGBTQIA+. You have a hard time "turning off" your racing mind and are feeling stressed. It might be hard for you to focus and you find yourself struggling to get things done. Perhaps you are struggling with procrastination, low motivation, or feeling in a "funk" because life is just too much sometimes. When you are stressed and overwhelmed, it can be hard to feel good about yourself and make the changes you'd like to see. If you are ready to work on yourself and start feeling better, you have come to the right place! You deserve to start feeling like YOU again.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
