I work from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and anti-racist framework.
Whether you're feeling anxious or low, or navigating life transitions or challenging relationships, sometimes you need a safe place to explore your wants and needs. To feel unconditionally seen and heard. To be met where you are, and to know that your feelings and experiences are valid. Maybe even to be challenged to see the ways you're getting in your own way as you try to achieve your hopes and goals. I aim to provide that safe, attuned, non-judgmental space. I believe that our experiences shape our feelings and behaviour, and that through exploration, the effects of harmful or traumatic experiences can loosen their hold on us.

Trauma-focused care means having patience and prioritizing my clients' comfort, values, wellbeing and process.
You look around the crowded room full of friends, family, colleagues or strangers and think to yourself… How do they make it look so easy? Why can't I find that happiness within myself and surrounded by others? I know I have; it is part of the human experience to feel uncertain or lost at some point in our lives. Whether that be trauma from childhood or the present day, anxiety, depression, a breakup, marital stress or grief - I commend you for making it here onto my profile and courageously taking that first step.

I am experienced in providing therapy for depression, anxiety, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder, grief, body image and eating problems, trauma, relationship difficulties, procrastination, perfectionism, self-esteem, chronic pain, disability, and burnout.
If you are looking for a supportive environment in which to tackle your mental health concerns, I offer a non-judgmental space where you will be accepted unconditionally. Just as pain and suffering are an integral part of human life, so is our capacity for healing. The safety of the therapeutic relationship offers you an opportunity to face past hurts and present difficulties, let go of defenses that no longer serve you, and adopt new coping mechanisms. I use an integrative approach to help you process emotions, change unhelpful thinking patterns, develop a mental well-being toolbox, and live a life more in line with your values.

Part of the holistic approach means having a look at the difficulties you have faced throughout your life, be it trauma, grief, abuse, or any other unique life experience, and unpacking them to see how things that might have served you in the past are no longer useful.
My approach to therapy is a holistic one where we look together at the whole picture of your life, to explore what messages, patterns, and feelings are currently hindering your ability to flourish. Gestalt therapy is mindfulness-based and focussed on the present moment which gives you an opportunity to see when and how your emotions arise and where you are getting stuck.

Starting therapy can feel foreign. Providing a space to explore, challenge and sometimes sit with different emotions, memories, and feelings can help understand our connectivity to our internal and external world, and process difficult and challenging obstacles. I create a compassionate, open, and empowering space while you explore past, present and/or future obstacles and issues. I can help with: anxiety, depression, trauma/complex PTSD/PTSD, bereavement, self-esteem, depersonalization, communication, family conflict, and general life stressors. Ultimately, one of the key goals is to feel a stronger connection to yourself.

Chronic stress, trauma, grief, loss, anxiety, change.
These days EVERYTHING and NOTHING has changed. The pandemic impacted us all differently. Lockdowns were heavenly for some and devastating for others. Many are exhausted from the past couple years having to navigate dramatic and unexpected changes to daily life, employment, finances, school, parenting, relationships, hobbies, etc. If the ways you normally managed life aren't available anymore, aren't working anymore, are sabatoging your relationships or are just plain unhealthy, then maybe it's time to take a look at how you cope?

Are you a queer, trans, or neurodivergent person dealing with the hurt of discrimination, rejection, or the feeling that folks around you just don’t understand? Maybe you struggle with trauma symptoms, dissociation, anxiety, depression, self-blame, or low self-worth. It can be hard to get up the courage to come to therapy only to feel like you have to explain the basics of your identity to your therapist. Worse yet, it can be scary to seek therapy when the field of psychology has historically tried to keep us from being our authentic selves.

I specialize in supporting folks who have experienced interpersonal childhood trauma, PTSD, as well as other challenging life events.
I have a strong belief in your capacity to change. I’ve worked for over 25 years supporting people who are struggling from both physical and emotional pain. I help people find stability and reconnect with themselves, as they do the important work of reclaiming and changing their life for the better. If you have done "healing" work in the past and feel like it is time to tackle new challenges or wish to experience new and innovative therapy interventions, we might be a great fit.

There are times when life experiences overwhelm our ability to cope, and it is a courageous act to seek help and support. I believe therapy should be a collaborative and creative process between client and therapist that involves all aspects of oneself, so that wellness can be experienced in an integrated and sustainable way. Working in the field of holistic wellness for the past seven years, with a specific emphasis on mental health and trauma-informed practices, I am committed to creating supportive spaces for individuals to deepen their relationship with themselves and expand their capacity to engage with life.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
