As a trauma focused and trauma-trained therapist, I understand self-regulation, repair of attachment ruptures, understanding complex responses, returning to/or generating a quality of life, identifying true refuge, parts convalescence, and getting your feet back on the ground can be accomplished within the birthplace of safety, co-regulation, compassion, and actual understanding. Whether you require insight into why you may react or behave the way you do in certain situations or relationships, or wish to acquire skills, I’ll seek to create a healing relationship in which it is safe to do so.

Have you tried therapy before for your trauma symptoms and found you hit a plateau, as if something was missing? Are you looking for a different approach? Do you suspect your trauma experience(s) may be impacting your sexual expression - like having low desire, dissociating during intimacy, or struggling to enjoy pleasure? Have you been diagnosed with things like anxiety or panic disorder, or BPD, but think these are a result of your trauma? Or, perhaps you are feeling as though watching porn or seeking sex has gotten out of control and you are looking for someone to talk to about it who isn't going to shame you.

Anxiety, invalidation, depression, and overwhelm, may have major needs worth supporting. I've noticed overthinking, numbing, avoidance, ongoing suffering from trauma, or imbalances in mind and body may surface. Most clients discover what is most fulfilling and transformative only during deeper reflection or exploration of their needs. Come find what you value, how to better express your needs, and discover how to help yourself. Feeling lost, unsupported, and uncertain is natural, but you don't need to stay stuck. Regardless of the reason, I’m glad you found your way here to connect and find your authentic path forward.

Low self esteem, intense reactions, childhood trauma, couples conflict and relationship issues can be opportunities to find healing.
Intense emotions flood you, confuse you, anger and sadness invade you and you are left cut off form the world. Due to this pain you react and then you regret it. You feel like you’re running from yourself, and things in childhood are catching up to you. You might not have found the tools to face it. You struggle in your relationships, getting into the same argument over and over again, and feeling stuck and hopeless. As a therapist, I don’t believe that we are broken and in need of fixing, we are hurt and in need of care.

We are all on a path of healing and discovery that leads, eventually and inevitably, to the realization of our true potential. I see psychotherapy as a powerful companion on this journey - it is a helpful friend that can help ease the burden during dark times, and it is a ray of light that can guide us more quickly beyond our own limitations when we are moving towards a goal. My practice is based in modern cognitive therapy and the neuroscience of trauma, while always anchored in the wisdom of mindfulness, acceptance and nondual awareness.

Trauma and PTSD Counsellors

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
