Therapy allows you to develop new insights about yourself, to challenge patterns that no longer work for you, and to build a set of unique skills that allow you to navigate your world in a more fulfilling way. I am a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology at York University, with a focus on children, youth and families. I provide treatment to clients experiencing difficulties ranging from depression and anxiety, to complex trauma and family-related challenges. Outside of work you might find me spending time with family, walking my dog, camping, reading, or sampling ice cream.

Any of us may become scared or frustrated by events in our lives. Sometimes parts of our lives just don't seem to be working out. We may become unhappy and come to an impasse. It is inevitable that we come face to face with a crisis of illness or loss. Some may have experienced a relationship breakdown or disturbing dreams and memories. Any one of these can make life seem overwhelming. Even when we find the courage to admit what's happening, those closest to us are not equipped to help us. At these times it is often helpful to talk with a therapist

Are you struggling with feeling sad, anxious, angry, ashamed, lonely, or confused? Are you struggling within yourself or in your relationship? Psychotherapy can really help. It helps enormously to have a safe person to be able to feel, express, digest and understand your experience with, including how it was shaped by your early relationships in life. Our early development powerfully shapes how we feel about ourselves and what we expect in our lives and in our relationships. More freedom, connection, and joy is possible. I work with adults, specializing in relationships, attachment, self-esteem, parenting, and trauma recovery.

Therapy can provide us with a unique opportunity to honour the ways we've adapted to difficulties in the past, and, simultaneously, uncover new ways of responding to ourselves and our environment. As a queer, neurodivergent Korean clinician, my approach to therapy is built on fostering flexibility, balance, and intentionality. I will help you break out of the status quo and work with you toward your goals within a safe and collaborative process. My orientation to providing therapy is trauma-informed, culturally humble, and neurodiversity & 2SLGBTQ+ affirming.

There is a Sioux Indian saying: The longest journey you will make in your life is from your head to your heart. I would be honoured to be part of that journey with you. Understanding the stigma often associated with seeking help, I strive to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment where you feel understood and supported. Everyone has the capability to do great things and become the best version of themselves as defined by themselves. I believe that therapy is a strength, not a weakness, and I encourage everyone to take proactive steps towards their mental health journey.

Pornography addiction can significantly impact your life and relationships but there is hope for recovery. I’m not just a mental health professional, I’ve been “you” for many years. I understand firsthand the personal struggles in your life and committed relationships that come with uncontrollable pornography use. The endless stream of attractive women a few clicks away on Pornhub, Onlyfan or Social Media is hard to quit even with all your willpower and promise to quit for the sake of your relationship

To suffer is human – but to grow and heal is also human. In life, you might experience stress, anxiety, self-criticism, anger, difficult transitions or relationships, chronic pain/health issues, trauma, sleep disturbance, and other challenges. Sometimes, you might feel so stuck or overwhelmed that your usual coping tools are not quite enough. It can be helpful to seek support from a professional who empowers you to overcome life’s challenges by helping you tap into your inner resources and develop new ones. I am a therapist with several years of experience offering such support.

Are you struggling with past traumas, depression, anxiety, and/or low self-esteem? At times life’s stressors and struggles can get in the way of us feeling joy. As your therapist, I will provide a safe space for you to explore who you are and who you want to be. I believe we must care as much for our soul as we do our body. I seek to create therapeutic spaces that are both supportive and exploratory. Drawing on my training as a therapist and literary scholar, I believe in the value of thinking carefully, deeply, and creatively about the stories we tell (and sometimes don’t tell) about ourselves. By learning to tell their stories, and perhaps learning to tell their stories differently, my clients are able to find balance, take risks, and centre healing in their lives.

Moving from burnt-out and uninspired to a balanced, sustainable, and grounded place can feel like an impossible hurdle in the depths of stress while still striving for success. In a world often dictated by societal norms and expectations, the pursuit of an authentic life is a profound, rewarding, and transformative journey. This path is not about conforming to external pressures; it’s about honoring your true self, your passions, and your values.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counselling

How can I find a therapist in Toronto?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, postal code, or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postal code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.

Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
