It's not just you, life HAS gotten harder in the last few years. If you've been powering through, staying strong and carrying on, but now you're barely getting by and you're tired of feeling like you're not really living your life, it might be time for outside support. The benefit of therapy is that it's a time where you get to focus on yourself, to look at your life, and to get an outside perspective on how it could be different. You don't have to just endure, with the right support, you can heal from the past, and move forward towards a better future.

With gentleness, curiosity and humour, I've walked with people at all ages and stages: facing mental illness or trauma, dealing with infertility or baby loss, embracing queer identity, wrestling with spirituality, living with disability. Your story is central, but talking isn't everything: some of our deepest wounds are held in realms beyond words. Because I often work with trauma and embodied pain, I use neurobiology-based somatic approaches. I use Internal Family Systems (inner parts work) and other approaches that engage clients’ creative, imaginative, and meditative sides in the service of healing.

As we collaborate to explore your inner world and take meaningful steps toward your goals, I will hold a lens that acknowledges the complex intersections of your culture, race, spirituality, and identity.
How do you move forward when you long to break cycles in your personal or relational life, but can't seem to make it happen? In the face of overwhelming emotions, how do you find your way back to a baseline of ease and alignment with your values? If these questions stir something in you, I’m glad you’re here. I help adults who are feeling emotionally "stuck" to break cycles and heal trauma by befriending your emotions, regulating your nervous system, and tapping into your body's innate wisdom and resources, so that you can shift out of survival mode into a state of enriching connection to yourself and others.

The majority of my clients are struggling with a unique cluster of symptoms that impact their ability to live life on their terms. Most are unaware of the ways our hormones, trauma and ADHD intersect, and too often we are poorly supported. In order for symptoms to shift, we need to address the many ways symptoms arise, and finding cohesive care can be challenging.

Are you experiencing a lot of burnout? Are you tired and often feeling the effects of tiredness on your body? It feels difficult to have the energy to get through the day. You are so focused on work - you put in long hours, you are getting promoted but you’re wondering whether you even have the energy to show up for all this. For a relationship or all of the other things in life outside of work. You’ve done all of the right things to get ahead but you can feel that something feels missing. Even though you are burned out, you know that stopping work feels difficult. You know you need to prioritize your health and relationships.

I became a therapist because, just like you, I am human and have had my fair share of battles. It took a long time for me to get to where I am today. I recognize that in moments of hopelessness, it is hard to find determination, that depression can be scary, that anxiety can be overwhelming, and that traumatic experiences can leave one feeling emotionally exhausted and drained out. I acknowledge the stigma associated with mental health and in going to therapy. For this reason, I know how crucial it is to provide therapy that is client-centered, empathetic, and unique to each person’s needs.

Are you feeling stressed or working about too much in your life, or perhaps frustrated and stuck in your personal or work relationships? Perhaps a past negative experience is making you feel unable to move forward. Many people who are struggling with uncertainty have a hard time knowing what direction to go in. It may be that you’ve tried to handle things on your own, or put off reaching out for support because you feel you should be able to work through your challenges by yourself. Sometimes everyone around you seems to have answers, but all you feel is confused. Mostly, you don’t want to let others down and feel that you might.

My ideal client is someone who senses that there is more to this life and is ready to reach for it. You may have tried other therapies, psychedelics, tried changing jobs or even changing relationships. You want more peace, joy, connection, and empowerment in your life. You need someone who will listen and empathize with you but also provide challenge and direction in service of your goals. You may also have the sense that traditional talk therapy doesn't work for you. You want to explore pathways to healing and change and are ready to face both the gold and the shadow within.

Spirituality Counsellors

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviours. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualisation, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
