I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals, couples and families and draw from mindfulness and somatic-based approaches in my work.
I believe that therapy should always be a place where we find unconditional acceptance, are held in a positive light, regularly gain insights and reflection, and are free to voice our thoughts and feelings without fearing criticism or shame. I have experience supporting individuals with depression, anxiety, struggles with career and life path, relationship challenges, trauma, and issues of identity and self-worth related to race, culture, family, gender and sexuality.

My work draws on the humanistic, existential and psychodynamic traditions of Western psychology, and is grounded in the wisdom of Eastern philosophies, somatic work, mindfulness and meditation.
Suffering is an inherent part of the human experience. In the course of a lifetime, crises happen, unpredictable challenges arise, and in response we develop habit patterns that are often protective but also inhibit our growth and freedom. Therapy will help clear the path so that you can see a way forward. I walk that path with you and provide a container for self-exploration and inquiry. I work with mood disturbances, trauma, attachment issues, self-esteem, and spiritual emergence. Depth therapy is a journey that will take you into yourself and lead you back to yourself while being witnessed by a safe, compassionate presence.

I use talk therapy, mindfulness (meeting present-moment experience with compassion and curiosity), somatic therapy (tuning into the body's wisdom) and an anti-oppression lens to help you find what works in your real life.
I have learned there is wisdom and resilience hidden in even the most painful of patterns, even when these patterns leave us trapped in destructive habits, despair or bad relationships. Once we find the wise intentions behind the old strategies, healing can happen. If you’re used to numbing out or criticizing yourself to get through the hard times – we’ll do it differently. Therapy with me is a judgment-free space to bring your sorrow, anxiety, anger and confusion without having to hide it or push through on your own.

I also supervise an affordable therapy clinic to make quality, mindfulness-based somatic trauma therapy more accessible.
Mindfulness teaches us how to relate to ourselves with kindness. I understand how the struggle to avoid or control difficult experiences can leave you feeling like your own worst enemy. Mindfulness is a different strategy. It's about learning to feel at home in our own bodies and our minds - even in times of trouble. My work is grounded in my own personal practice: a 20 year meditator with 14 years as a mindfulness educator, I'm a graduate of a Buddhist seminary with a master's degree in Counselling psychology and specialized training in working with trauma and abuse.

I bring curiosity, compassion, presence and informed intuition to our collaboration, along with extensive expressive arts, internal family systems, somatic and arts-based resources.
In my private practice as an expressive arts therapist I use the arts along with conversation and reflection, to help clients get ‘unstuck,’ uncover resources for change and growth, live with suffering when necessary and celebrate the joy of life as we humans always have -- by making meaning through making art. Increasingly, I also draw on Internal Family Systems (working with our "parts") to support and inform a safe and effective healing environment. I work with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, creative blocks, eating disorders, physical illness, grief, trauma and sexual abuse.

The focus of my work is supporting people to discover, befriend, and transform old ways of being. Through exploring personal narratives, habitual responses, and the subconscious terrain, we work together to create fresh space and open to new ways of being. Sessions with me involve talk therapy with somatic exercises, Brainspotting, parts work and hypnotherapy woven in as is supportive and appropriate. I am warm and grounded, and keep the session energy flowing through active inquiry and deep listening. Working at a pace that feels safe and supportive for you is key, and so I regularly check in to ensure that this is your experience.

My approach is informed by somatic therapy, internal family systems, family constellations, and hypnotherapy.
Talking things through and accountability have not been enough to sustain satisfaction in your life?   Let’s try something different! In our sessions everything deserves a place; emotions, thoughts, images, dreams, desires, impulses, stories, and sensations, they all belong. And all need to be acknowledged in order to generate real movements and shifts in our lives. Movements can happen externally as a physical release, internally as a new image of ourselves, or at a soul level shifting our dynamics with others, and the way we live.

My style is relational, with somatic techniques from hakomi.
Sometimes we can feel disconnected from ourselves or from those close to us. Perhaps there are strong emotions pulling in many directions all at once, or a numbness with no explanation at all. In such times we feel anxious, overwhelmed and alone. There is safety in feeling accompanied by someone who cares, and can help find balance again. I believe our feelings can be great teachers, though often confusing. In this way, I believe we do have the answers within us. Unlocking them is a process: giving voice to emotions, being seen and understood, discovering a new awareness, taking steps gently in a new direction.

I use an integrative, relational, mind-body approach and have specialized in complex trauma and dissociation, having trained extensively in EMDR, DBR, Structural Dissociation (parts work), Here+Now Work & somatic-relational modalities such as the Hakomi Method.
It’s not always easy being human, is it? I find that the greatest gift of therapy, when there is a strong air of compassion, presence and curiosity in the therapeutic alliance, is the ability to reclaim our needs, our full range of feelings, our joy and our aliveness. While building skills of mindfulness, self-compassion, and embodied awareness, I believe there is immense possibility that lies in our unfolding wholeness, waiting to be discovered - creative choice made more accessible, when we're less held back by our fears, our core beliefs, and pain that we've had to organize around to survive.

I work from a foundation of somatic exploration, depth psychology, and a feminist approach that understands the social and political contexts in which our lives exist.
While the specific reasons people seek therapy vary, we come to the work because we recognize that some psychic and emotional pain is preventing us from living our most dynamic and meaningful lives. Therapy is a process of inner work that allows us to work through those barriers. In a supportive, non-judgemental therapeutic relationship we can begin to encounter the unknown and disavowed aspects of ourselves and in doing so learn from these parts of ourselves, heal and integrate, and transform our relationship to ourselves and others.

If you find yourself navigating the complexities of adulthood, carrying the weight of childhood experiences, you're not alone. This journey, while challenging, doesn't have to be walked alone. At Collaborative Care Therapy, we provide approachable, high-quality therapy, accessible virtually across Ontario, where your experiences are heard and understood – a place where healing begins with connection.

I recently completed Level 2 training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, a trauma-focused and attachment-based somatic therapy.
Hello and welcome! I'm a queer, transmasculine therapist with a background in health and community-based work, as well as in music, writing, and theatre. I draw upon a range of strengths-based and trauma-informed therapy approaches with the intention of increasing my clients' capacity to safely connect to themselves and to move toward ways of living and relating that affirm them in their wholeness. I aim to be an active and supportive presence in the therapy process, and to work in a way that is guided by the political frameworks I value in my everyday life: anti-oppression, harm reduction, and abolition.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
