The main approaches I use are somatic experiencing, internal family systems & CBT.
Life often presents us with different challenges and sometimes we need some support in working through them. Psychotherapy can be helpful when you are facing challenges such as stress, anxiety, trauma, anger, self-esteem, or even just wanting to get to know yourself better. I believe that it is important to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where we can work together on addressing your needs and goals.

Research towards my book "Multidimensional Healing" soon to be published by Austin Macauley revealed that unresolved childhood trauma underlies many common mental, emotional & physical health issues such as PTSD, HDD, anxiety, depression, chronic hypertension & auto-immune diseases. Therefore, I have trained in the trauma resolution methods EMDR, Internal Family Systems & Somatic Experiencing designed to reactivate embodied psychic trauma & facilitate its release. These methods are life-changing when they release the trauma blocking the flow of vitality, love and well-being.

Based on my training and experience in body-based psychotherapy, such as Somatic Experiencing, I believe the body informs us if we listen.
Are you feeling stuck in your relationships or with your feelings? We all experience challenges at times and have normal periods of ups and downs. The difficulty is when we feel stuck – either in a particular mood state (such as depression or anxiety), in our reactions to triggers, or in our relationships. I approach counselling as a creative and collaborative process to tap into your innate wisdom, access your inner resources, and develop healthy coping strategies in a safe and supportive environment. I will see your strengths as well as your struggles. My goal is to guide you as you discover the path that is best for you.

I use Somatic Experiencing approaches to help folks notice the story their body is telling them and begin to find safety in their body to feel more regulated, calm and increase their capacity to enjoy everyday life.
I support youth and adults with processing and healing from trauma, stressors, and challenging life experiences. These stressors show up in our bodies in several ways which may include anxiety, chronic pain, health difficulties, sleep disturbance, etc. or just not feeling yourself. The folks I support may have experienced childhood trauma or attachment difficulties, or they may be experiencing increased anxiety and stress due to work, relationships, school or more recent challenging life experiences. I strongly believe in the youth’s caregiver(s) involvement in therapy process to better support their youth outside therapy sessions.

I draw from diverse modalities and perspectives, including narrative, somatic, and drama therapy approaches.
It is my goal in therapy to create a working relationship that feels safe, collaborative, and effective. I work mainly with adults who identify as LGBT2SQIA+ or who are exploring their gender, sexuality, or relationship preferences (I am kink/poly-friendly). I support individuals seeking a more positive relationship with themselves and others, to cope better with stress and change, and to lead lives more congruent to their needs and values. My approach is informed by both my professional experience and lived experience as a queer and nonbinary person. I invite exploring problems with curiosity, compassion, and playfulness.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
