In addition to talk therapy, I am trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE).
Are you feeling overwhelmed? Do your thoughts keep racing from one thing to another? Do you find you are excellent at taking care of everyone else but keep neglecting yourself? I would like to help. I am passionate about helping people to move past the "shoulds" and move towards creating the kind of life they want to live. Most of the time when we are distressed we are worrying either too much about the past or the future, or are overly preoccupied by what we imagine other people are thinking about us.

My curious and compassionate whole-person approach—primarily a blend of talk therapy, somatic techniques, spiritual inquiry, mindfulness, movement, humour, earth-based practices, trauma healing, and self-compassion—will support you to uproot and transform the underlying causes of the discomfort in your life.
I believe deeply in the transformative power of a non-judgemental space where all of you is welcome. In the past, you may have made the wise choice to separate from who you were to create safety. In the present, this fragmentation can give rise to anxiety, depression, disordered eating, aggression/anger, and an overall feeling of being lost and purposeless—all contributing to difficulty in everyday life. I see my role as a compassionate companion, walking along side clients on their journey back home to their authentic self, by supporting their innate capacity for growth and change.

We might use somatic exercises to release trauma held within your body or art therapy to uncover buried fears.
Accepting NEW Clients - Life can be hard. Often unprocessed trauma and early childhood experiences outside of your awareness impact your behaviour and mental well-being. Culture and context, intrusive thoughts and fluctuating moods, find ways to disrupt everyday functioning. I know, I have been there. Let's work together to uncover "what's going on" and through verbal and non-verbal approaches tap into your inborn strength and coping skills. Gradually re-establish balance and well-being as you reduce anxiety, depression, and aimlessness. Through a safe therapeutic space we'll strive to put the pieces of a puzzled life together.

I utilize specific modalities to assist each person reach their unique therapeutic goals, specifically, EMDR, Parts Work, Somatic Therapy, and CBT.
Trauma, much like a splinter, embeds itself into a person and affects all aspects of life. My primary objective is to create a safe and compassionate therapeutic alliance which facilitates healing and growth. With Trauma, I truly believe that the body holds a great deal of the emotional weight, without us knowing. I witnessed severe difficulties in my community, and as an adult I have grieved many friends who kept their suffering a secret, often until it was too late. I truly believe that every individual innately harbors the right set of tools to achieve their personal goals and find their way to a meaningful, fulfilling life.

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
