We offer narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, somatic therapy, mindfulness, and secular Buddhist psychology.
We all have things we’ve been told about ourselves that we internalize and start telling ourselves. Do you struggle with a story or belief about yourself that holds you back? Does this cause you some stress, loneliness, conflict in your relationships, or even lead you into misusing alcohol or substances? Now, more than ever, a lot of us are feeling disconnected from others and under the spell of negative stories about ourselves. In my practice, my team and I believe that these stories can be rewritten, that we are each the author of our own lives.

My approach combines a strong focus on a supportive, trauma-informed counselling relationship, informed by mindfulness (MBCT), somatic approaches, and exploring habitual character patterns (primarily via the Enneagram).
I support those who are seeking not only to better understand their underlying patterns but also to actively improve their quality of life with a safe, supportive and collaborative counselling relationship. Issues that I help with include healing from traumatic loss, recovering from the effects of childhood trauma, relationship abuse, and other difficult life events. I also work extensively with issues around emotional regulation, boundary setting, anxiety, depression and substance misuse. Even when your struggles originate from severe adversity and trauma, you can grow, not only despite adversity, but because of it.

My counseling approach is somatic, land-based, and spiritual.
I guide people to return to their fierce intelligence for healing, for thriving. You can free your heart no matter what atrocity you’ve endured. Whether it’s trauma that’s racialized, class-based, familial, intergenerational, transphobic, religious, and ableist, there is medicine within you that wants to heal you. Your spirit (wholeness) is designed to reclaim your life force. Your life force is exactly the gift our world needs to come back into balance. I care about you coming into your rightful power so that you can live in belonging and grow loving connections.

My true passion is then to help you become mindful of your trauma-driven emotional, somatic and behavioural patterns while working with you to undo the still present barring effects of past traumas on your daily life.
As you go along in life, do you find yourself switching between different moods and hijacked by so many contradictory feelings and impulses that feel out of your control or conscious awareness? You may wish to live life more fully and meaningfully while you find yourself inhibited or limited with struggles between your wish for involvement in ordinary life and fear of leaving the house, mistrust of relationships, or hopelessness about future. In dealing with these personal challenges, you may feel flooded and severely anxious or in trying to disconnect or deny these responses, may feel chronically depressed and alienated from self.

I use Internal Family Systems (parts work) and Somatic Therapies to support individuals, couples and multi-partner relationships to connect to themselves and others with curiosity, compassion and clarity. Many of my clients are queer, non-monogamous or kinky and I aim to provide an inclusive space for anyone who wants to deepen their relationship with self, others and spirit. Spiritually, I hold an non-dual and animate worldview which supports me to approach therapy from a holistic perspective, recognizing the interconnectedness and aliveness of body-mind, spirit and environment.

A customized treatment plan for you will combine psychotherapy (optimizing your mind) with specialized cognitive and neuroscience approaches (like CBT, Somatic Experiencing or Rapid Resolution Therapy).

Are you struggling with ADHD, PTSD, depression, or an unwanted habit? Feeling lost and stressed in your career, or overwhelmed with responsibilities? Needing support as you navigate LGBTQ+ challenges? You are looking for therapy that works, right?

I work from a trauma informed and person centered practice integrating techniques from somatic based approaches, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Emotion-Focused Therapy.
You’re finally ready to take the courageous first step towards your healing journey. It can be really isolating to struggle alone or without adequate support. Sometimes it’s difficult to see the path forward when we are feeling low or experiencing heightened anxiety. Together through foraging a collaborative and trusting space, my goal is to assist folks finding their way back to joy, authentic expression, and themselves. My therapeutic approach draws heavily from my decade long background working in the helping profession supporting folks of diverse backgrounds with varying social and emotional needs.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
