I combine Emotionally Focused Therapy and Somatic Experiencing to promote lasting and effective change.
Have you been struggling with feeling like something’s not quite right? In your relationships, your life - or within yourself? You may feel like you’re ‘not good enough’. Maybe something happened with your partner or you had a difficult childhood that is causing you pain and upset. Present-day circumstances, and events from your past, can both be contributing to how you’re feeling right now. I’m here to tell you that I specialize in helping people to heal within themselves, their relationships and to create new pathways in their body, mind and spirit to feel whole, precious and well again, or perhaps for the first time.

My approach is integrative, pulling from Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Attachment-Based Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Mindfulness-Based Therapies, Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Gottman Method Couples.
I believe that all people have an innate tendency towards connection and growth. Using a compassionate and honest approach, I work with you to access your internal strengths, and to better understand your motivations, behaviours, emotions, and thoughts. We will collaborate to identify goals and move towards more joy, beauty, connection, love, and fulfillment. We can also uncover natural resilience to move through the difficult parts of life. I have experience with a variety of issues, including but not limited to, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and relationship distress.

I find that a holistic/somatic approach works well for those who suffer from trauma/PTSD, anxiety and fibro/chronic fatigue.
Are you struggling with the effects of trauma/PTSD, anxiety, low self-esteem, fibro/chronic fatigue or sexuality-related concerns? Is tired but wired or stressed and depressed a familiar experience for you? Life feels hard & tiring if our nervous systems are out of whack and our emotions out of balance. I enjoy supporting folks with dysregulated nervous systems, and those who struggle with sexuality-related concerns. I have extensive training in somatic/holistic modalities and also have training in supporting clients with sexuality-related concerns.

Integrative Somatic Therapy Practice (ISTP) is a somatic therapy approach that invites us into deeper conversation with our body-mind-spirit and (re-)connects us to our innate, healing wisdom. Through a trauma-informed lens, ISTP combines top-down and bottom-up processes to help you foster embodied resilience and re-establish trust and safety within. Through our work together, I will further guide and support you through the release of stuck energy/emotions that have been stored in your body as you recover and reclaim parts of your true Self.

Through somatic work like Hakomi and examining self-criticism, we get you back to your true self.
Are you someone who knows how you want to eat and how you want to eat but get stuck somewhere between what you want to put into your mouth and what you actually put into your mouth? Do you see your relationship to food as an emotional expression of what is going on inside of you? I support my clients in getting in touch with their physical hunger cues and then the emotional, spiritual hungers that arise as a result. I have been there. I've done retreats on my eating and my thesis on how we use our body to express internal struggles. There is a you waiting to get out to stand tall and shine. Food & eating can actually be the way out.

I have specialized training in play therapy, Hakomi (somatic-experiential) therapy, and am completing certification as an Equine-Facilitated Mental Health therapist (through EFW-Canada).
When I meet with a client, whether a child, teenager, or adult, my intention is to be present with them where they are, first as a human being; then to help them feel safe and comfortable with me and to bring my years of experience and training, along with their knowledge of themselves and their desire to change, to resolve what brought them to therapy.

Somatic therapy increases awareness by processing our inner sensations to become available to our conscious awareness, leading to a healthy, more regulated nervous system.
I wish to help you feel safe, validated, and heard. I am curious to learn your strengths and cultural diversities and collaboratively create therapy goals based on exploring and reflecting on your lived experience. I am empathic and compassionate and have faced the reality of life’s ups and downs; in this space, all emotions, tears, and humour are honoured. As a healthcare professional, I understand the pressures of public service. I invite healthcare professionals who wish to reduce stress and learn healthy coping mechanisms to work with me, and in addition, I would like to offer my services to those with chronic pain.

I work primarily from a Hakomi (somatic) and Motivational Interviewing approach.
Life experiences can hinder our emotional, mental, or spiritual growth, making it difficult to move forward in an effective way. My experience has been working with teens, men, and women and their issues with trauma, addictions, OCD, eating disorders, and anxiety. I am passionate about helping my clients understand how the brain works and taking a strength-based approach to developing skills. The research focus of my thesis was on resiliency in Indigenous adults with FASD. Together, we can find the power within you.

My approach is to build a container of safety, compassion, and empowerment where we work together to holistically process challenging experiences, honour your internal wisdom, develop personalized skill sets, re-write narratives that no longer serve you, and increase resiliency and joy so that you can live your most meaningful life. Utilizing an integrative lens, my practice draws from training in somatic therapy, parts-based therapies (Internal Family Systems and Jungian informed), mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and attachment theory to provide care that is nuanced, creative, and culturally/scientifically-informed.

Somatic Counsellors

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
