Are you waking up exhausted? You start your day tired. Maybe you’re feeling trapped by the mental load you carry and don't see any relief insight. Your important relationships are suffering and you’re either avoiding or snapping at everyone, making you even more stressed out and unhappy. It’s not unusual to feel like you’ve lost your way- whether at school, work, with your partner, at work or even in parenting. Now more than ever many people are finding themselves overwhelmed by the pressures and responsibilities of their day-to-day lives and just wanting to reconnect with their true selves.

My background holds 40yr of extensive practice experience and continued learning. Expertise:all relationship concerns; recovery/healing from emotional hurts, losses, trauma. Such events, if in early years, can instill persistent insecurity, fears, loneliness and grief, causing troubled close relationships and inner-life: Restricting our core resilient nature where we keep strong potentials to be more open, creative, confident, realistic/effective persons. Mainly treat “self-regulation” problems: Social anxiety, shame/guilt, anger, depression; Overdependencies; Intimacy-sexuality, Communication; Identity-Personality issues;Selfcare.

Have you ever felt like you needed to do “more” or be “more” in order to feel like you are “enough?” Overwhelmed by guilt if you have needs of your own? Or believe if you did acknowledge YOU in relationships it could end in abandonment, disappointment or being alone? You may have learned to relate to yourself in this way for as long as you can remember and does not mean you are “broken” in need of being “fixed”. When we remove judgment and begin to see our “true self” through the lens of curiosity we get to reconnect with who we have always wanted to be but was too afraid to try.

You deserve to feel better. I am a Registered Social Worker who is excited about and honoured to provide effective therapy services. In my practice, I see all kinds of humans, who show up struggling with all kinds of human issues. These often include anxiety, depression, sadness, shame, people pleasing, and relationship challenges. I have training in many modalities (ways of doing therapy, like CBT) and nearly twelve years experience working in our mental health system. Our work is informed by my experience, knowledge, and certifications, and is tailored to what you need to feel better as soon as possible.

How does solution-focused therapy work?

The treatment works by helping a client notice which behaviours and thoughts have positive results on their lives and building a plan around how to maximise these strengths. Practitioners of solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) believe that individuals already have the experience, wisdom, and resilience to create change in their lives, but may need a guide to help them realise which changes to make and how to make them.

Is solution-focused brief therapy evidence-based?

Yes. Solution-focused brief therapy has been extensively studied, and researchers find strong evidence that it’s an effective treatment for many behavioural and psychological concerns. This may be due to the uplifting nature and practicality of the treatment, which allows patients to employ strategies to reach their goals that are incremental and achievable.

How long does solution-focused brief therapy last?

Solution-focused brief therapy, as the name implies, is brief. The timeline may vary from person to person, given the challenges they face and their situation in life, but treatment is typically complete within four to eight sessions. This therapy type is a pragmatic one: it’s concerned more with “how” problems can be addressed and improved than getting to the root of “why” they exist in the first place.

Is solution-focused brief therapy a type of cognitive behavioural therapy?

Solution-focused brief therapy is related to cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)in that both are pragmatic approaches that deal less with gaining a full understanding of the cause of a mental health problem and more with creating plans for how to cope with these problems and improve an individual’s day-to-day life. They are distinct, however, in that SFBT emphasises building on strengths and resources, while CBT focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviours.
