Together, we can work towards helping you better manage challenging emotions, increasing your sense of self-efficacy & confidence, while improving your self-esteem/mood/sleep, and reducing your overall stress/anxiety levels.
I am accepting NEW patients for phone/video sessions. Asking for support is a courageous first step in managing your mental health & wellness. It is easy to get stuck in unhelpful thought patterns that do not serve us. The good news is, we have more control over our thoughts and feelings than it may seem. You can learn to take charge of your behaviour with the right tools & techniques, to live a more fulfilled & happy life. I will work collaboratively with you to help set achievable goals that support empowerment, capacity building & resiliency. I aim to create a safe environment where we can have relaxed & authentic conversations.

I have also trained in CBT for Insomnia.
As a psychologist, I work with change. Change may involve shifts in awareness, attitude, behaviour, goals, acceptance, or coping strategies that will enhance your quality of life and well-being. Many obstacles can prevent us from living a satisfying life. These could be a history of trauma, invalidating relationships, habits that no longer serve us, or environments that may hinder our psychological growth. I can help you identify obstacles to your quality of life, develop strategies to tackle them, and set goals to increase and maintain your well-being.

In addition, I have a unique knowledge and experience in a broad range sleep disorders and fatigue that combines training with world-renown sleep experts and more than a decade long clinical and research work in sleep clinics as well as in academic and hospital settings.
I had been a medical doctor before I became a psychologist. I changed professions because I realized that our thoughts, feelings, and behavioural habits have a powerful effect on our health and happiness but their potential to aid healing is often neglected in medicine. I feel privileged to work with clients who are on the journey of recovery and self-growth during and after adversities. I work with clients who have sleep problems, fatigue, stress, low mood, depression, anxiety, panic, chronic worry, obsessive thinking, post-concussion syndrome, medical illnesses, or chronic pain.

Having your life disrupted by insomnia isn’t just physically exhausting. It’s mentally and emotionally draining too. Maybe you’ve made big changes to your life, like cutting out socializing or juggling endless sleep aids and routines (that don’t even work). It’s common to feel lonely and misunderstood. You may also feel confused about some of the physical symptoms happening in your body. I understand what you’re going through because I struggled with insomnia for 5 difficult years. While they were the hardest years of my life, I want you to know there is hope. You can absolutely get back to sleeping and feeling like yourself again.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
