Welcome! I am a trauma therapist with culturally informed, anti-racist & intersectional feminist values. I would be honored to walk through life's difficulties with you through creating a trusting relationship. We can process life experiences, break intergenerational trauma cycles, develop your unique identity, explore values, or set boundaries. Through being more compassionate to yourself, we can build your self worth and heal childhood wounds. I work holistically to support folks to deepen their connections to their mind, body, soul, spirit, emotions & community. I care about creating safer spaces that empower BIPOC mental health.

As humans, we will experience feelings of burnout, anxiety, or depression at some point in our lives, and talking to a psychologist can help. I have seen firsthand the transformative power of therapy and the incredible progress individuals can make as they learn to navigate their emotions, build resilience, and create meaningful connections with others. Since there is no “one size fits all” approach, I will work in collaboration with you to come up with a unique game plan that fits your needs and most of all, works! I am here to help support and push you towards achieving your personal, professional, and lifelong goals.

Are you ready to begin transforming the beliefs, emotions, and patterns you hold inside of yourself that keep you from fully living the life that you want? Together we can explore the roots of whatever you are currently wanting help with - be it emotional regulation, self-compassion, relationships, depression, anxiety, addictions, life transitions, sexuality, spirituality, and racial identity. These roots can span across multiple generations, often inviting us to tune in to our ancestral history.

Each person’s experiences can only be witnessed and felt from their own perspective. I recognize that every person has an innate human need to be heard, witnessed, respected, and honored in those experiences. The focus of my practice is to honor every individual's unique feelings, circumstances, and experiences without interpreting them. My goal is to find the deepest meanings to their experiences. I want to help them heal from those experiences and help them to integrate them into becoming empowered to live their fullest lives.

Sleep or Insomnia Counsellors

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
