I love working with queer and neurodivergent folks, parents of trans children, and people navigating existential, spiritual and religious tensions.
Therapy with me uses:
> art to express complicated ideas and feelings
> mindfulness to practice how to stay in the present during hard conversations and discomfort
> body-focused strategies to listen to the body and give it what it needs
> narrative and relational cultural therapies to tell more compassionate stories and think of problems as separate from us

Using attachment theory, parts work, EMDR, and somatic movement, we often find and safely process the deeper roots of issues, allowing trauma, burdens, and stress to finally resolve.
Hi, I'm Alex! I'm experienced in helping other adults who feel stuck in life or disconnected from themselves or their bodies. This happens for many combinations of reasons, and is common in our modern day and social systems with more technological connection but less authentic connection. I often work with people who have tried cognitive/talk therapies and are ready for something different that can lead to deep, lasting internal change, and people who are aware of patterns and the "why" of things but want more than a toolkit of coping skills and regulation tactics.

I have a somatic- based practice that is focused on supporting folks ages 15+ in resolving and resourcing developmental and relational traumas, stress, and grief, and I have a particular interest in supporting women through life transitions and resourcing the female nervous system.
I work with individuals who have experienced trauma, grief and loss who are seeking to receive support and navigating the complexities of their journey. The clients that I see often have a desire to dive deep (while honouring their own timelines and process), to make meaning, and develop the skills they need to accept their reality, and make changes where they see fit.. I understand that my clients have lives that are nuanced, complex and ever-changing, and it is my goal to be able to meet you with presence and curiosity.

Many of my clients seek consultation with specific intentions or goals for therapy from the outset, while others reach out to clarify their position regarding life events. It is common for people to have multiple concerns that could benefit from therapy, but feel unsure of where to start. I also meet with people who are doubtful about the usefulness of therapy, yet are in search of a protected setting to work through one of life’s struggles.

Typical modalities that I draw from include Internal Family Systems/Parts Work, Somatic Therapy, Attachment Theory, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Inner Child Work.
Healing from relationship trauma is possible—and you don’t have to face it alone. I specialize in helping people recover from betrayal trauma, narcissistic abuse, and other wounds caused by painful relationships. Whether these experiences began in childhood or developed later, they can disrupt your sense of self, body connection, and relationship with others. You might struggle with people-pleasing, anxiety, perfectionism, or a feeling of being too much, yet not enough. Together, we can process these experiences, attune to your nervous system, and create new patterns that help you feel grounded, confident, and connected again.

Adverse childhood experiences, sexual trauma, and long periods of living in survival mode can quietly shape how you move through the world. When coping strategies that once helped begin to create more distress, therapy can offer a different way forward. You might feel constantly on edge, disconnected from your body, struggling with intimacy, or unsure why certain emotions, urges, or reactions feel so intense. Many people I work with have learned to cope by pushing things down, staying in control, or using substances to get through, only to find those strategies are no longer helping.

My approach is strongly informed by somatic experiencing (SE) and I am in ongoing training for this modality.
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a body-oriented therapy developed by Peter Levine that helps release trauma and stress stored in the nervous system by focusing on bodily sensations ( somatic cues) rather than just thoughts or emotions, allowing the body to complete its natural fight/flight/freeze response to regain regulation and resilience.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
