Spending much of my younger years as an elite athlete and growing up on a traditional farm with little resources, I had little-to-no understanding of mental health and how to cope with my struggles in an appropriate way. Although this led me down a personally-dark path, it also led me down to an eventaul road of personal accountability and a new passion for helping others navigate similar challenges using healthier coping mechanisms. Many of my clients fall within the adolescent to adult-age range and often struggle with anxiety, pressures, relationships, and low mood; That said, I am always open to supporting a wide-range of issues

The women we work with at LIV usually look like they have it together. They're capable, self-aware, and often the person everyone else leans on. But privately, there's anxiety that won't quiet, a harsh inner critic that never lets up, or a persistent sense that life should feel better than this by now. They've tried to think their way out of it. They understand their patterns. And something still isn't shifting. If any of that resonates, keep reading.

Most people who find us have already tried to figure it out on their own. They've read the books, built the habits, maybe even done therapy before. They understand their patterns. And the patterns keep happening anyway. Some are functioning fine on the outside even though something feels persistently "off". Others are genuinely struggling - relationships strained, anxiety running the show, a loss or transition that knocked them off a baseline they haven't found since. What they share is this: they're done trying harder. They're ready for something that actually shifts.

I support adults with anxiety, depression, relationship stress, life transitions, substance use, emotional regulation, and self-esteem.
Hi, I’m really glad you’re here. Many of my clients say that before reaching out, they feel overwhelmed, but also unsure if they’re “overreacting.” They might think, “I should be able to handle this,” or “other people have it worse,” or worry they’ll be judged. Some feel stuck in patterns they can’t change. Others feel exhausted holding everything together on the outside while struggling quietly inside. It’s normal to feel nervous about opening up, especially to someone new, or to wonder what to say or if you’ll be understood. If this resonates, you’re not alone. You don’t need the “right words” to start; I’ll meet you at your pace.

I'm here for professionals who've noticed a persistent, quiet hum of "not good enough": that despite your achievements, your sense of relief is short and then you're on to the next task. For many of my clients, receiving love was conditional on being the best, the smartest, or the most resilient. They learned to survive by doing, but still felt fundamentally unseen. While this internal drive built great careers, it has left their nervous systems stuck in a state of chronic high alert, making it nearly impossible to experience genuine presence or inner peace. We can go behind that narrative of striving to address its foundations.

Self Esteem Counsellors
When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
