You know that something is bothering you, and you just need a place to talk about it honestly and without judgment. Or maybe you can’t express exactly what is wrong, but a persistent feeling has been concerning you and you’d like to understand it better and find some peace. I offer a grounded, unpretentious space where you can speak freely about what is going on. And if you aren’t sure where to begin, just say that and there is our starting point. I take this work seriously and bring my full self to it: warmth, honesty, humour, and the perspective that comes from a varied life and my own healing journey.

With over 15years of pure psychology, we have the proficiency to help families and individuals with their social and psychological needs.
The real cause of unhappiness is self-distrust, we do not trust ourselves well enough to win our battles. We are most times, scared of the known coming to an end than the beginning of the unknown. No wound is too deep for a ferocious devotion to heal. A huge number of human challenge ranges from financial, emotional and lack of spiritual energy to face them.

You lie awake at night with a million thoughts and worries running through your mind. And wake up feeling overwhelmed by everything you need to get done. You set super high expectations for yourself, then feel like you can never measure up. You’re living with your own worst critic - that internal voice that’s always telling you that you’re not good enough. Maybe you also live with the worry that something terrible could happen at any time, and that you won’t be able to get through it.

Many people in and out of the 2SLGBTQ+ community are struggling with anxious or intrusive thoughts, dealing with family rejection or loss, and experiencing depression.
As a cisgender gay man myself, I have personal experience with this self-acceptance journey and I use that knowledge to help clients reframe thoughts, enact self-compassion and remember that thoughts are just thoughts, not facts. My approach is 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and eclectic, including cognitive, narrative, and compassionate elements.

I have a diverse background in mental health, addictions, child and youth, and family work.
People would want to contact me for support if they are looking for someone who can provide connection, trust, and solutions in an meaningful and efficient manner. It is my belief that people are typically within a spectrum of need where they either 1) need to disclose what they have been holding inside; 2) need the skills to cope with what has happened or what they think might happen; 3) somewhere in the middle of needing someone to listen but stay focused on solutions for today. Life is full of tough moments and important transitions which impact our functioning and sometimes requires new skills and ways of solving problems.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
