Life - forever changing. How does one merge in with the change of time when they are stuck in the past with the stories that created such impact and varying degrees of trauma? How does one continue on trying to understand the experiences which led to behavioural addictions or substance use disorders? The battle to "be" and feel free and "okay" is so overwhelming they see no other option than to want to self harm, Use, think of dying, - or feel such shame for thinking about it. What crisis has you gripped by the throat leaving you immobile or so dissociated you don't know where one self begins and the other ends?

I am a Master’s-level therapist working under clinical supervision. I bring both lived and clinical understanding into my work as a person who has lived with chronic health issues, is neurodiverse, and is also a caretaker.
I offer a collaborative, person-centred, relational approach to therapy where we move at your pace—not the pace you feel pressured to keep up with.
I meet clients where they are at. For some, that means deep emotional exploration of their past. For others, it may simply mean having a safe space to exhale, slow down, and feel less alone in what they are carrying.

Have you hit a dead end and still experience unresolved or unexplained thoughts, feelings, pain or other symptoms?
Unconscious, learned breathing patterns can sabotage you by creating detrimental feedback loops in the nervous system that mimic or exacerbate numerous cognitive, emotional & physical symptoms, disorders, and diseases. Breathing Pattern Disorders are not a disease but produce symptoms that mimic disease. So now you know it's not all in your head, but HOW?

Pain, suffering, exhaustion and overwhelm do not need to be met alone.
Key areas:
Couples Therapy (completed Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 training of the Gottman Method); ADHD, Neurodiversity; Addiction, Substance Use; Grief counselling. I continue to elevate my understanding of how trauma impacts and/or intersects with each of these areas.
Given my key areas of support, I find I end up doing work that interconnects these concepts.
E.g., working with couples where one or both partners identify as having ADHD or experienced trauma that impacts current ways of relating
E.g., working with individuals who grew up in a household with addiction and are now processing emotional losses

I work with individuals living with chronic illnesses, as well as caregivers of people living with challenging health conditions. The difficulties that caregivers face is often ignored, so it is important to provide support for everyone impacted by complicated conditions.
I also work with sexual & gender minorities by providing a trauma informed, safe space that allows for authentic expression and the exploration of sexual and gender identities.

How does chronic pain therapy work?
Engaging with a psychotherapist to help treat chronic pain does not mean that one’s pain is all in their head. Therapy for chronic-pain patients has been shown to benefit both the mind and the body, targeting physical symptoms and increasing daily functioning. In other words, for many, addressing their emotional health through therapy affects their physical health. A therapist can help a client challenge unhelpful thoughts about pain and develop new ways to respond to it, such as distraction or calming breathing techniques. Studies have found that therapy can be as effective as surgery for certain cases of chronic pain and many doctors recommend trying psychotherapy in advance of considering invasive surgery.
What are the most effective treatment options for chronic pain?
Stress, anxiety, depression, catastrophising, ruminating, lack of activity, and social withdrawal all make chronic pain worse. Addressing these issues, research shows, can help people gain control over their pain symptoms. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, biofeedback, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, along with greater pain-management education, have been found to help people reduce fear and disability.
Are there new treatments for chronic pain?
Many cases of chronic pain, particularly those involving back pain, remain medically unexplained. But there is evidence that changes in the brain or nervous system are caused by previous physical ailments such as tissue damage; in such cases, the brain may continue to send out pain signals despite the physical cause having healed. To aid patients under these circumstances, a recently developed treatment known as pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) is designed to help the brain “unlearn” this response. A PRT practitioner helps individuals to reduce the “threat value” of their ongoing pain signals until they can reappraise them as less threatening and fear-inducing. They also help an individual to develop new emotional regulation skills.
How long does therapy for chronic pain take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from chronic pain, especially as there may be a range of physical and psychological causes for any individual’s discomfort, but most patients should expect to see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions. Studies of pain reprocessing therapy found that many individuals’ experience of pain lessened in eight sessions over four weeks.
