I work primarily with children ages four and up through play therapy. Because we cannot expect young children to sit down and discuss their problems and feelings like adults do, allowing a child to express themselves through play is very effective. This builds on the way children naturally communicate - through play! Play also creates a safe place for children to express something that they find troubling. This means that very difficult topics can be worked through in a playful or metaphorical way which is age appropriate for the child. I completed my play therapy training through the Rocky Mountain Play Therapy Institute.

Christin works with children ten years and younger.
Carter’s Counselling was founded by Katharine Carter, who is a social worker by training. Katharine recognized that, naturally, many services and supports exist in large urban centers such as Saskatoon, however access to resources is more limited in smaller communities such as Martensville. Katharine has made it her mission to ensure that Martensville and surrounding areas also have access to counselling, mental health services and other resources. Carter’s Counselling was created out of this social work value: that everyone should have equal access to services, regardless of where they live.

My heart is with parents of children who are struggling because one thing that I know for sure is that if we are no ok, our kids don't stand a chance. Learning and understanding the feelings, emotions and thoughts that arise can be so difficult and so confusing especially in the parenting arena. Renegotiating your parenting relationship as your child grows is something that can expose many negative core beliefs, "triggers" or buried emotions. Looking at those emotions, feeling them and processing them is something that through therapy has been deeply beneficial and can allow you to show up as the parent and person you wish to be.

You are the expert in your life and have the strength and resilience necessary to create your preferred future. I am particularly interested in stress management, anxiety, and small or big trauma that happen along the way. My work with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is beneficial for a wide range of ages and presenting concerns. I also have advanced training in play therapy, which is based on developmental principles. It is a process where the child chooses objects, symbols, or types of play to express their concerns and work through particular problems.

We are a Psychologist, Social Workers, and Professional Counsellors, and have experience working with adults, children, teens, and families to combat anxiety and help to reach potential in all areas of life.
Shayna, Eileen, Coralee, Raelee, and Tom have several years of experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and more. Mental survival tactics can drain years from our lives, leaving us struggling just to get by, while the pleasures and joys of life seem just beyond our grasp. When people experience severe life stressors or trauma, it often feels like their life is beginning to unravel.

Are you or your child experiencing difficulty reaching your full potential at work or school? Would you like to be experiencing more academic or occupational success? A psycho-educational assessment may be helpful to determine underlying causes of difficulties and how to overcome them.

Child Counsellors
Child psychologists in Saskatoon, SK provide mental health therapy to children and are experts in child development.

Every comprehensive review of therapy with children shows that all credible approaches, when performed by a competent mental health clinician, produce almost the same results. About half of all kids will get better. Of those that improve, 80% will show progress in a relatively short time, while the remaining 20% will need longer-term support.

The best child therapists in Saskatoon build great relationships with the child and the parent. They also see the child's strengths and are open to hearing the child's possible solutions to the challenges the child faces. Finally, a good therapist appreciates the child's culture and is sensitive to the values of the child's community.
